Pay: $19.00 - $80.00 per hour + tips

Position Summary

Mystic Experience Co. is seeking creative, engaging, and knowledgeable individuals to join our team as Storytellers / Cast Members for our Art & Photography Tours.

In this role, you will guide guests through Mystic while helping them see, frame, and capture the beauty of the area. You will combine storytelling with hands-on instruction, offering practical photography guidance and creative insight throughout the experience.

This position is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in photography, visual arts, content creation, or creative education who enjoy teaching and engaging with others.

This is a part-time, seasonal, hourly (non-exempt) position. Work is scheduled on a per-tour basis, depending on business needs and availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead guided walking tours focused on art, photography, and visual storytelling
• Provide hands-on guidance to guests on photography techniques, including:
• Composition and framing
• Lighting and exposure basics
• Angles, perspective, and subject placement
• Assist guests in capturing high-quality photos using smartphones or cameras
• Share knowledge of local art, galleries, and creative spaces in Mystic
• Create an interactive, supportive, and inspiring group environment
• Manage group movement safely through public spaces, including sidewalks and crossings
• Monitor guest well-being and maintain awareness of surroundings at all times
• Start and end tours on schedule while maintaining a smooth and engaging flow
• Represent Mystic Experience Co. in a professional and creative manner
• Communicate effectively with management regarding scheduling, guest feedback, or operational needs

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Demonstrated knowledge of photography fundamentals (composition, lighting, framing)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable teaching or coaching others in a group setting
• Ability to engage and interact with guests of varying skill levels
• Reliable, punctual, and professional
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in photography, visual arts, media, or creative fields
• Experience teaching, coaching, or mentoring others
• Familiarity with smartphone photography and/or DSLR/mirrorless cameras
• Knowledge of Mystic, Connecticut or willingness to learn local art and cultural points of interest
• Experience in hospitality, tourism, or guest-facing roles

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (approximately 1–2 miles per tour)
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and light rain
• Ability to demonstrate techniques and assist guests while moving through tour locations

Work Schedule

• Part-time, seasonal role with hours based on scheduled tours and business demand
• Tours may be scheduled during weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• No guarantee of minimum hours; schedules vary based on bookings

Compensation

This is a non-exempt, hourly position paid in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and Connecticut wage and hour laws

Base pay will never fall below applicable minimum wage requirements

• Tiered hourly pay structure based on tour group size:4–5 guests: $19.00 per hour (base rate)
• 6–10 guests: $40.00 per hour
• 11+ guests: $80.00 per hour

Employees are paid for all hours worked, including pre- and post-tour responsibilities as applicable

Overtime will be paid in accordance with applicable federal and state laws

Tips are encouraged and often received, with typical earnings averaging approximately $15–$20 per guest, but are not guaranteed and are not used to offset base hourly wages

Employment Classification & Conditions

• This is an at-will employment position, meaning employment may be terminated by either the employee or employer at any time, with or without cause or notice, in accordance with applicable law
• Employees will be scheduled and directed by Mystic Experience Co.; this is not an independent contractor role
• All employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States
