ROLE OVERVIEW
Compensation: $12 - $45 per hour (base rate plus piece rate for personal training sessions delivered). Actual compensation may vary based on local wage requirements, certifications, experience, and performance. Part-Time and Full-Time roles available.
The Personal Trainer is a key contributor to VIVE’s mission of empowering members to reach their health and fitness goals. This role combines floor management, one-on-one coaching, and program delivery to create a safe, motivating, and results-oriented training experience. Personal Trainers build lasting relationships with members and serve as trusted guides on their wellness journeys.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Market and deliver personal training sessions that help clients achieve measurable results
- Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments, goal-setting consultations, and new-member orientation appointments
- Coach members on safe, effective exercise technique during workouts on the fitness floor
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized training environment—re-rack weights, remove used towels and bottles, and sanitize equipment regularly
- Motivate, educate, and encourage members to stay committed to their fitness goals
- Collaborate with all departments to provide a seamless member experience
- Build genuine relationships with members and generate referrals through exceptional service
- Uphold all club policies, including guidelines on cell-phone use, equipment etiquette, and facility rules
- Attend department meetings and pursue continuing-education opportunities to keep certifications current
- Contribute to the development and rollout of new fitness programs and class offerings
- Provide emergency first aid to members and guests when needed
- Take on additional duties as assigned by your supervisor
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay well-informed on all VIVE programs, services, and amenities
- Actively promote club offerings, events, and personal training packages
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs
- Support overall club cleanliness and organization
- Participate in site-wide meetings and professional development trainings
- Complete injury, illness, and security incident reports as required
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- National Personal Training Certification required within 90 days of hire (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, etc.); modality-specific credentials as applicable
- Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or a related field required in the absence of certification
- Working knowledge of resistance-training equipment and proper exercise form
- Solid understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and muscle-group-specific programming
- Knowledge of injury prevention principles and foundational rehabilitation techniques
- Competence in movement screening, postural assessment, and body-composition testing
- Ability to calculate target heart rate zones and apply heart-rate-based training principles
- Foundational knowledge of nutrition as it relates to fitness goals
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering outstanding member service
- Strong verbal communication skills and an encouraging coaching style
- Comfortable with basic technology; willing to learn club software and scheduling tools
- Current AED/CPR/First Aid certification
- Authorization to work in the United States
PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to accept responsibility for the health and safety of others
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods during a shift and lift up to 100 lbs
- Comfortable working in an active fitness club environment
- Adherence to all OSHA and VIVE safety standards
