ROLE OVERVIEW
Compensation: $12 - $30 per hour (base rate plus class instruction rate). Actual compensation may vary based on local wage requirements, class format, certifications, and experience.
Group Exercise Instructors bring energy, expertise, and community spirit to every class they lead at VIVE. This role is responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and results-driven group fitness experiences for members of all fitness levels, including active-aging populations. Instructors are expected to maintain current certifications and continuously refine their craft to keep VIVE’s class programming fresh and motivating.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Lead a variety of group fitness formats—such as yoga, barre, mat Pilates, cycling, strength training, HIIT, dance fitness, and active-aging classes—for diverse member populations
- Coach participants on safe, effective exercise form and offer modifications to accommodate different fitness levels
- Inspire and encourage members to pursue their fitness goals through positive, motivational instruction
- Attend department meetings and invest in continuing education to keep all certifications current
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized class environment before and after each session
- Prepare and execute well-structured class plans and adapt in real time to participant needs
- Demonstrate all physical aspects of instruction, including leading movement, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting as required by the class format
- Accept responsibility for participant safety; provide emergency first aid when needed
- Work collaboratively with all departments to support a cohesive member experience
- Take on additional duties as assigned by your supervisor
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay current on all VIVE programs, services, and amenities
- Promote upcoming classes, events, and club offerings to members
- Help maintain and organize group fitness equipment
- Support overall club cleanliness and presentation
- Attend site-wide meetings and professional development trainings
- Complete injury, illness, and security incident reports as required
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- Minimum 2 years of group exercise teaching experience preferred
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to lead dynamic, inclusive group classes
- Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification or specialty-class credential (e.g., Zumba, Yoga Alliance RYT, etc.)
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering outstanding member service
- Strong verbal communication and motivational coaching skills
- Comfortable with basic technology and scheduling tools
- Current AED/CPR/First Aid certification
- Authorization to work in the United States
PHYSICAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to accept responsibility for the health and safety of others
- Ability to stand, move, and demonstrate exercises for extended periods; able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Comfortable working in an active fitness club environment
- Adherence to all OSHA and VIVE safety standards
