At My Place: A Play and Learning Center, every team member plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for the children we serve. Our mission is to provide high-quality care and educational experiences that support children’s growth, development, and sense of belonging.
My Place operates a main childcare center serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old, as well as an After School Program located at Watkins Glen Elementary School for PreK and school-age children.
As an Assistant Group Teacher in the My Place After School Program, you will support the Group Leader in providing fun, play-based, developmentally appropriate activities that encourage creativity, social-emotional growth, problem-solving, and positive peer relationships. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, is dependable, energetic, and wants to grow in the field of childcare and education. This position is located at our after school and summer enrichment program.

High School Diploma or GED required.
The ideal candidate will: Have experience working with children or a strong interest in childcare, education, or youth development.
Be reliable, energetic, patient, and willing to actively engage with children.
Be able to follow directions and work collaboratively with the Group Leader and program team.
Maintain a positive, professional attitude with children, families, staff, and school partners.
Support an inclusive environment where all children feel welcomed and valued.
Be willing to learn and follow My Place policies and NYS Child Day Care regulations.
Demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills.
Be able to sit, stand, move with children, and lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
Assist the Group Leader in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children.
Support children during daily routines, transitions, snack, homework time, play, and enrichment activities.
Actively supervise children at all times to ensure safety and positive behavior.
Engage with children through play, conversation, encouragement, and relationship-building.
Help guide children in using problem-solving skills, respectful communication, and positive peer interactions.
Assist with setting up, cleaning up, and organizing materials and activity spaces.
Help implement activities planned by the Group Leader or program leadership.
Follow My Place policies, procedures, and expectations for supervision and child safety.
Support accurate attendance, sign-in/sign-out procedures, and other required documentation as directed.
Greet families in a friendly and professional manner during pick-up or program events.
Communicate basic information to families when appropriate and refer larger concerns to the Group Leader or Program Director.
Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program matters.
Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Be open to feedback, coaching, and continued learning.
Represent My Place positively in all interactions with children, families, staff, and the community.
Assist with answering phones, greeting visitors, and supporting daily program operations as needed.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming program environment.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the After School Program.
