Music for Minors is a Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to nurturing a lifelong love of music in children. Founded in 1976, MFM partners with schools to provide high-quality music education during the school day. Our programs serve preschool and elementary students through engaging, standards-based lessons that include singing, movement, rhythm, instruments, and music from many cultures. MFM partners with Bay Area schools to offer weekly in-classroom music lessons that are hands-on, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with state and national standards. Our skilled music educators incorporate singing, rhythm, movement, and instruments like recorders and percussion to ensure students receive vital music education during their early years. About half of Music for Minors' programs serve under-resourced schools, often being their only source of music instruction.

Music for Minors seeks qualified and experienced educators to deliver weekly music lessons to Preschool – 5th-grade students in the California Bay Area. Educators will travel to multiple school sites weekly to teach in-person music classes using MFM-provided curriculum and materials. Successful educators possess strong classroom management skills, experience with a variety of student ages and ability levels, a musical background, and a love of working with children.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer weekly music classes at school sites (20-45 minute class durations)
• Use MFM-provided curriculum and materials for at least 85% of each lesson
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with classroom teachers and school administration
• Promote a love of music in all students
• Use paid planning time to prepare lessons each week
• Participate in paid online cohort meetings
• Track the number of lessons taught at each school site
• Communicate all absences and schedule changes with Program Manager

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
• 2+ years of teaching experience preferred
• Experience as a vocalist or instrumentalist
• Ability to commit to an entire school year (through June)
• Energetic, flexible, patient, and enthusiastic
• Skilled in classroom management
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and educational access.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to school sites
