Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a full-size Type C or D yellow school bus safely along designated afternoon routes.
  • Conduct thorough daily afternoon pre-trip and post-trip inspections, paying specific attention to air brake systems, mechanical safety, and student safety equipment (e.g., flashing strobe lights, crossing gates, and mirrors).
  • Manage student behavior effectively to maintain a safe, distraction-free environment while the bus is in motion.
  • Supervise the safe loading and unloading of K-6th grade children, ensuring they safely cross roadways using the bus's specialized safety signals.
  • Ensure no passengers remain on the bus at the conclusion of the afternoon route (post-trip child check).

Arkansas CDL Requirements & Qualifications

  • License: Must hold a valid Arkansas Class B CDL (or higher).
  • Endorsements: Must possess both the Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Restrictions: Must not have an "L" or "Z" restriction (Air Brakes restriction), as a full-size bus uses standard commercial air brake systems.
  • Training Certification: Must have completed the federally mandated Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for the Class B theory, Passenger, and School Bus modules.
  • Driving Record: Clean driving history with no major moving violations or at-fault accidents within the past 3 years.
  • Medical Clearances: Must hold a valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate from a registry-certified physician.
  • Background Check: Must clear the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Central Registry check, an FBI background check, and a pre-employment FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query. 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for the duration of the 2-hour shift while safely operating a large commercial vehicle.
  • Physical capability to bend, stoop, and operate emergency exit mechanisms if an evacuation is necessary.


Salary

$25 - $25 per hour
