Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Finance/Accounting
Reports to: Controller
Qualifications
Experience equivalent to 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience with high payables and receivables volume is required. This position requires experience working in a Windows environment with extensive knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop and a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and Word. The ideal candidate will possess above average organizational skills, excellent communication skills, flexibility, advanced problem-solving skills as well as and urgency to solve the problems at hand, the ability to engage in self-directed work, and a great attitude.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledgers
- (Daily/Weekly) billing and data entry to maintain current Accounts Payable ledger
- Track and reconcile simple and complex transactions
- Reconcile monthly bank statements
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly closing entries and necessary accruals.
- Along with the Controller, alternate responsibility for running regular payroll
- Prepare reports for various stakeholders as requested
- Receive training in and use regularly a variety of site-specific software including but not limited to FileMaker, Microsoft Teams, & Gusto
- Provide analytical and strategic insights
- Engage in excellent customer service for both external and internal customers and vendors
- Must maintain an excellent communication path with the Controller on all tasks and projects
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
Physical Job Requirements
This position must be able to:
- Remain in a stationary position for long periods
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
- Regularly position self to maintain files in standard file cabinets
- Observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
- Communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Typical Job Environment
This position works on-site at the St. Johnsbury, Vermont office in an open concept office space among multiple colleagues. Occasional work from home is permitted with supervisor’s approval.
