Soils Laboratory Technician - Temporary

Position Details. Location: Moab Utah / Temporary Part-Time / Sep 30 – Nov 15 /

$3,600 guaranteed flat rate; $25/hour after 144 hours.

Position Summary. Moab Geotechnical Group is looking to hire a temporary soils laboratory technician to support a heavy testing season for the fall of 2026 by assisting laboratory staff in converting field samples into measured data. Satisfactory performance could lead to future employment opportunities. No benefits are included. Expected 16-24 hours of work per week with flexible scheduling.

Responsibilities. As a laboratory technician you will be responsible for preparing collected field samples for testing and analysis under the supervision of senior laboratory staff while following standard operating procedures and specific testing protocols. You may have the opportunity to perform laboratory testing and compile and organize laboratory testing results and data for use in reports. You will work under supervision of a laboratory director, or laboratory technician to perform duties or tasks assigned to you. You will be working within a laboratory environment where quality results, calibrated equipment, and accountability for every testing result is critical to the safety of communities.

Specific responsibilities include:

·        Process field samples to prepare for testing

·        Perform moisture content, sample washing, and sieve analysis

·        Perform finer material washing

·        Ensure all equipment and working areas are clean, sterile, and in proper working order

·        Calibrate equipment as necessary

Position Requirements.

·        Must be able to speak and write basic English

·        Must be able to lift to 40-80 lbs

·        Reliable transportation to and from office in Spanish Valley

·        Must be able to perform work to specific requirements and maintain quality output in a repetitive and low stimulation environment

·        Basic knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and geological processes is a bonus.
