The Adult Pre-field Trainer collaborates with other trainers to help pre-field mission workers develop the perspective and skills needed for language acquisition and cross-cultural work in their future context. This role involves teaching modules and facilitating discussion during the pre-field (Compass) program. The trainer must be an engaging, facilitative educator, comfortable with interactive training methods, and skilled at drawing out insights from participant responses and reactions.

Reporting & Supervisory Relationship

Reports to and is supervised by the pre-field (Compass) Director.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion, desire, and skill in helping pre-field adult missionaries effectively prepare for cross-cultural challenges, including learning language.
  • Personal experience living and adapting in a cross-cultural setting for 4+ years, including language acquisition and integration.
  • Strong facilitator/teacher mindset, dedicated to equipping proactive learners for cross-cultural life and ministry.
  • Deep, personal relationship with the Lord, reflected in daily life.
  • Outgoing, approachable personality.
  • Warm and hospitable.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the ministry.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational: 4-year college diploma.

Responsibilities

Time:

  • Full-time trainer during Compass programs.
  • Participate in team work meetings.
  • Work 6 Saturday mornings per year, as needed.

Language Acquisition:

  • Phonetics drill instructor during Compass programs.
  • Facilitate language modules to enhance perspective and/or skills throughout the Compass program.
  • Meet with and coach participants on specific language challenges related to their field and context.

Cross-Cultural Training:

  • Facilitate and teach cross-cultural learning during Compass programs.
  • Meet with and provide coaching to participants, addressing their specific field and situation.


Financial: Support-raised position (an initial stipend may be provided as support is raised)

Miscellaneous: Flexibility and willingness to serve needs outside of the above listed as required by the Director of Compass.
