Security department, reports to the IT & Security Manager, Full-Time Exempt, onsite Silver Peak on a 4/3 schedule. This is the hands-on lead who builds and runs MRG's security department day to day as the site scales up — supervising guard staff, setting schedules and post coverage, writing the SOPs and post orders as they go, and standing in as the top security authority on-site when the IT & Security Manager isn't around.
Position Summary
The Security Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building and running MRG's security department day to day as the site scales toward full operational staffing. This role owns daily security operations — supervising guard staff, developing post orders and schedules, and standing up the procedures, training, and coverage plans a growing site needs. The Security Supervisor is the senior security presence on-site in the absence of the IT & Security Manager and works closely with HR, EHS, and Operations to keep the site, its people, and its housing secure.
Key Responsibilities
Department Building & Team Leadership
• Stand up day-to-day security operations, staffing plans, and post assignments as the department scales
• Recruit, train, and directly supervise security guard staff; build and maintain shift schedules and post coverage
• Develop and document post orders, standard operating procedures, and shift-turnover protocols
• Provide hands-on coaching, direction, and performance feedback to security staff
• Act as the primary security authority on-site in the absence of the IT & Security Manager
Site Security & Access Control
• Oversee daily access control for employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors
• Enforce badging, sign-in/sign-out, and escort requirements
• Conduct and supervise regular patrols of the site, equipment yards, offices, and mancamp housing
• Monitor restricted areas and ensure consistent, day-to-day enforcement of site security protocols
Incident Response & Reporting
• Serve as initial incident commander for security-related events and disturbances
• Respond to and manage security incidents and safety concerns during assigned shifts
• Complete detailed incident and access reports; escalate appropriately to the IT & Security Manager and site leadership
• Coordinate with HR, EHS, Operations, and local authorities when needed
Systems, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor surveillance, alarm, and access control systems and troubleshoot day-to-day issues
• Identify vulnerabilities or coverage gaps and recommend practical improvements as the department matures
• Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement of security procedures
• Maintain security equipment, post supplies, and documentation
Policy Enforcement & Compliance
• Enforce company policies, site rules, and mancamp standards in a professional, consistent manner
• Support MSHA and company security/safety compliance requirements
• Assist with investigations related to policy violations or asset protection
Executive & Visitor Coverage
• Lead security planning and coverage for CEO, CFO, and other executive or VIP site visits, coordinating with the IT & Security Manager
• Conduct advance site assessments ahead of executive visits, identifying and addressing potential security risks
• Coordinate secure transportation, arrival/departure protocols, and site routing for executives and visiting guests
• Adjust staffing, post coverage, and access controls to support executive movements without disrupting site operations
• Maintain close proximity and situational awareness during executive site visits, serving as the primary point of contact for executive security matters
• Complete executive visit reports and feed lessons learned back into standing post orders
Qualifications
Required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of security, law enforcement, military, or industrial security experience, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity
• Demonstrated ability to build and structure a security function — scheduling, post coverage, SOP development, and staff training
• Strong situational awareness and sound, independent judgment appropriate to a fast-scaling remote operation
• Ability to prepare clear, detailed incident and access reports
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to work and live onsite at a remote mining operation
Preferred
• Experience in mining, construction, or other remote/industrial sites
• Prior experience standing up or growing a security department or team from an early stage
• First Aid/CPR (and AED) certification
• Experience coordinating with local law enforcement or emergency responders
Physical Requirements
• Ability to traverse rugged, uneven mine site terrain, including inclines and unpaved surfaces
• Exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and dust
• Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, including 12-hour shifts and rotating hours as operational needs require
• Comfortable wearing required PPE for extended periods, including respirators when necessary
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based — patrols, gate coverage, mancamp housing, and equipment yards — with regular time set aside for scheduling, documentation, and department build-out work. The Security Supervisor works closely with the IT & Security Manager, HR, EHS, and Operations leads on a day-to-day basis.
The employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned to meet ongoing operational needs.
