Description

Position Summary


The Environmental Superintendent is MRG's primary on-the-ground environmental presence at the Silver Peak site. This role carries real day-to-day autonomy conducting field monitoring, leading and hosting routine regulatory inspections and site visits across multiple state and federal bureaus, and exercising independent judgment between the Environmental & Compliance Manager's visits. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who can operate with minimal daily oversight while keeping the Environmental & Compliance Manager informed and aligned on strategy and reporting.


Key Responsibilities


Environmental Monitoring

•     Conduct water and air quality sampling and monitoring in accordance with permit requirements

•     Perform dry stack tails compliance monitoring and field inspections

Regulatory Site Presence & Inspection Leadership

•     Serve as the onsite point of contact for NDEP and other regulatory site visits, hosting and leading inspections across:

–    Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation (BMRR)

–    Bureau of Air Pollution Control (BAPC)

–    Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

–    Bureau of Sustainable Materials Management (BSMM): hazardous waste management and landfill compliance

–    Nevada Division of Water Resources (NDWR)

–    Bureau of Safe Drinking Water

•     Exercise independent judgment on field decisions between the Environmental & Compliance Manager's visits, escalating as needed


Cyanide Management

•     Perform field checks and documentation in support of International Cyanide

Management Code compliance


Waste Management

•     Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal compliance onsite, including BSMM landfill compliance requirements


Wildlife & Land Management

•     Conduct wildlife monitoring and support habitat and land use compliance activities


Reclamation Support

•     Track progressive reclamation activities and support bonding/reclamation plan compliance


Reporting & Documentation

•     Prepare field data, sampling results, and site documentation for the Environmental & Compliance Manager's review and regulatory submission

•     Maintain accurate, audit-ready environmental records between the Manager's site visits


Training & Outreach

•     Deliver internal environmental training and represent MRG in public-facing or regulatory communications as needed


Qualifications


Required

•     7+ years of environmental compliance experience in mining or another heavy industrial, permitted operation

•     Demonstrated, hands-on experience leading regulatory inspections, with proven working knowledge across the following Nevada/federal bureaus:

–    BMRR: Water Pollution Control Permit reporting and EDC submittals

–    BAPC: recordkeeping/reporting and Method 9 Certification

–    BLM: basic inspection knowledge

–    BSMM: hazardous waste management, compliance, and landfill compliance

–    NDWR: familiarity with the Meters Database

–    Bureau of Safe Drinking Water: understanding of permit mechanics

•     Familiarity with the International Cyanide Management Code or similar chemical management frameworks

•     Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with limited daily onsite oversight


Preferred

•     Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

•     Experience with metal mining and processing operations

•     Prior experience serving as a primary point of contact for regulatory site visits or inspections

•     Experience delivering training and public speaking, including to regulatory or community audiences

•     Familiarity with Monitor Pro


Physical Requirements

•     Ability to traverse rugged, uneven mine site terrain, including inclines and unpaved surfaces

•     Exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and dust

•     Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

•     Comfortable wearing required PPE for extended periods, including respirators when necessary

•     Valid driver's license; ability to operate a 4WD site vehicle


Work Environment

This role is based full-time at MRG's remote Silver Peak, Nevada site, with onsite mancamp housing provided. The Environmental Superintendent works primarily in the field and reports to the Environmental & Compliance Manager, who visits site approximately monthly. Regular coordination with Processing, Safety, and site leadership is expected given the cross-functional nature of environmental compliance.


The employee may be required to perform other related duties as assigned to meet ongoing operational needs.
