Join our on-site cantina team preparing scratch-made breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our mine site crew in Silver Peak, NV. This is a full-service cooking role — not fast food or short-order — where you'll play a direct part in crew morale and daily site culture. Live and work on-site with free furnished housing and meals included, on a 7-on/7-off schedule.
Position Summary
The Canteen Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals in a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. This role supports daily operations by ensuring food is prepared according to dietary guidelines, sanitation standards, and site expectations. The Cook helps maintain inventory, supports menu planning, and provides friendly, consistent service to employees and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service
· Prepare daily meals, snacks, and beverages according to established menus and portion standards.
· Cook food in large or small batches depending on site demand.
· Ensure meals are served on time and presented professionally.
· Maintain awareness of dietary restrictions and provide alternatives when required.
Kitchen Operations
· Follow all food safety and sanitation regulations (ServSafe or equivalent).
· Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, and dining areas after each shift.
· Properly store food items and monitor expiration dates to reduce waste.
· Operate kitchen equipment safely, including grills, ovens, fryers, and utensils.
Inventory & Ordering
· Assist with inventory tracking and notify supervisor and procurement when supplies need replenishment.
· Receive deliveries, inspect products, and ensure proper storage.
· Reduce food waste through accurate portion control and planning.
Customer Service
· Provide friendly and efficient service to employees and guests.
· Address customer concerns or dietary requests promptly and professionally.
Health & Safety
· Follow all site safety procedures, including PPE requirements.
· Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or incidents immediately.
· Maintain a clean and organized kitchen to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications
Required
· High school diploma or GED.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license.
· Current MSHA certification.
· Current ServSafe Food Handler certification or equivalent.
· Previous experience as a cook or food service worker preferred; camp or industrial kitchen experience is a plus.
· Strong knowledge of safe food handling practices and commercial cooking equipment.
· Ability to prepare meals for large groups and work independently with minimal supervision.
· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., standing for long periods.
· Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote environment.
Preferred
· Experience working in mining, industrial, or remote camp environments.
· Prior experience in facilities, housekeeping, maintenance, or custodial work.
Work Schedule & Conditions
· Rotational schedule; may include long shifts, weekends, and holidays.
· Work is performed in canteen facilities, and sometimes outdoor areas.
· Must be comfortable working in a remote mining camp environment.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and lift regularly.
· Ability to operate cleaning equipment and kitchen equipment.
· Work in a fast-paced, high-temperature kitchen environment.
· Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
· Ability to meet schedule requirements, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or rotation shifts depending on site needs.
· Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
