About the Role

Mindsize partners with enterprise clients to build and support digital products. We're hiring a Backend Engineer to join a client-embedded team building web applications for one of those clients.

You'll build and ship production Java and Spring Boot services as part of an experienced engineering team, working directly with client stakeholders and contributing from your first sprint.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs in Java and Spring Boot
• Own features end to end, from technical design and estimation through deployment and production support
• Write clean, tested, maintainable code and give thoughtful feedback in code review
• Work with relational databases, caching layers, and third-party integrations
• Partner with frontend engineers to define and evolve API contracts
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and help improve monitoring and reliability
• Contribute to technical design discussions, refinement, and other agile ceremonies
• Communicate progress clearly, flag risks early, and document your work

What We're Looking For

Required

• 3–5 years of professional backend development experience with Java
• Experience building and operating production REST APIs or services with Spring Boot
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar), including JPA/Hibernate
• Writes unit and integration tests (JUnit, Mockito, or similar) as part of everyday development
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
• Comfort debugging production issues using logs, metrics, and tracing
• Comfort with Git and a branch/PR/review workflow
• Authorized to work in the US and based in the US
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the self-direction to work effectively on a remote, client-facing team

Nice to Have

• GraphQL
• Kubernetes and cloud experience, especially GCP
• Caching and search technologies (Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar)
• Messaging and event-driven systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar)
• Observability and monitoring tools (Datadog or similar)
• Exposure to frontend work (React, Next.js, or similar)
• Experience with e-commerce, digital retail, or consumer-facing products
