General Construction Laborer
Position Summary:
A general construction laborer performs a variety of physical tasks on construction sites to support skilled tradespeople and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This entry-level position requires physical stamina, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment around job sites
- Prepare construction sites by cleaning debris, setting up barricades, and ensuring work areas are safe
- Dig trenches, backfill holes, and perform general excavation work
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials
- Assist skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and masons
- Operate hand tools (shovels, hammers, levels) and light power tools (drills, saws) as directed
- Demolish structures and remove old materials during renovation projects
- Erect and disassemble scaffolding, bracing, and temporary structures
- Follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean work environment
- Perform general site maintenance and cleanup duties
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required)
- Previous construction experience helpful but not necessary; willingness to learn is essential
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50-75 pounds regularly
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Good physical stamina and ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
- Basic understanding of construction safety practices
- Reliable transportation and punctuality
- Ability to work well in a team environment and follow directions
Preferred Skills:
- Valid driver's license
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience operating basic construction equipment
- Bilingual abilities (depending on workforce composition)
