General Construction Laborer

Position Summary:

A general construction laborer performs a variety of physical tasks on construction sites to support skilled tradespeople and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This entry-level position requires physical stamina, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment around job sites
  • Prepare construction sites by cleaning debris, setting up barricades, and ensuring work areas are safe
  • Dig trenches, backfill holes, and perform general excavation work
  • Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials
  • Assist skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and masons
  • Operate hand tools (shovels, hammers, levels) and light power tools (drills, saws) as directed
  • Demolish structures and remove old materials during renovation projects
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, bracing, and temporary structures
  • Follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean work environment
  • Perform general site maintenance and cleanup duties


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required)
  • Previous construction experience helpful but not necessary; willingness to learn is essential
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50-75 pounds regularly
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Good physical stamina and ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
  • Basic understanding of construction safety practices
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and follow directions


Preferred Skills:

  • Valid driver's license
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience operating basic construction equipment
  • Bilingual abilities (depending on workforce composition)

Salary

$12.5 - $12.5 per hour
