Job Summary:

The Lead Painter is responsible for overseeing and executing all painting operations on commercial, or industrial projects. This position includes supervising painting crews, ensuring high-quality workmanship, adhering to safety standards, and maintaining project schedules. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and extensive hands-on experience in surface preparation, priming, and finishing using various application techniques.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of painters and laborers on-site.
  • Review project specifications, blueprints, and schedules to plan and assign work effectively.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, patching, and priming.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
  • Ensure proper color matching, finish quality, and application techniques.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure completion within deadlines and budget.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
  • Enforce compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Train and mentor junior painters and ensure all crew members adhere to quality standards.
  • Communicate with project managers, contractors, and clients to coordinate activities and address concerns.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional painting experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
  • Proficient in a variety of painting techniques and finishes.
  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation, coating systems, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
