Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Description

We are seeking a Full-Time Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) to serve Midwest Recovery in Burnsville, MN. Midwest Recovery provides outpatient drug and alcohol treatment services. We are a community-based program that proudly and ethically provides services to individuals experiencing hardships related to substance use disorders. Our focus is on you and how your personal strengths can enhance your recovery.

Schedule

Monday-Thursday (10 hour shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a member of a treatment team, comprised of the Counselor, Chemical Health Technician, Treatment Director, other staff and consultants as needed.
  • Completes Substance Abuse diagnostic assessment and treatment plans written within the ASAM 6 dimensions criteria and outline.
  • Conducts group activities, individual counseling and family counseling for clients assigned to him/her.
  • Participate in client staff meetings with other members of staff.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures related to alcohol/drug problems to the entire client population as needed.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures related to daily living to the client group.
  • Acts as supervisor, if qualified, for interns or trainees and provides direct supervision for other members of staff, acting as member of the counseling team.
  • Participate in committee work and other appropriate tasks as requested by the Director.
  • Participate in yearly training as required by 245(G).

Qualifications

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree

Must have at least a baccalaureate degree with a major or concentration in social work, nursing, sociology, human services, or psychology, or is a licensed registered nurse; has successfully completed 120 hours of classroom instruction in each of the core functions listed in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 148F, is covered; and successful completion of 440 hours of supervised experience as an alcohol and drug counselor, either as a student or as a staff member.

Preferred: Master’s Degree

Experience:

At least one year of work experience in a LADC role.

License & Certifications

Required

Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor or granted a temporary license.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Documented two years of freedom from problematic substance use.
  • Must pass Applicant Background Check Study Approval.
  • Knowledge of philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous.
  • Chemical use assessment, including client interviewing and screening.
  • Case management, to include treatment planning, general knowledge of social services and appropriate referrals, record keeping, reporting requirements, confidentiality rules and regulations that apply to substance use disorder clients.
  • Knowledge Individual and group counseling, including crisis intervention.
  • Must know and understand the implication of parts 9530. 6405 to 9530.6505, 9453.1000 to 9543.1060, and Minnesota Statues, sections 245A.65, 626.556, 626.557, and 626.5572.

Degree of Authority:

Counselors have authority to follow emergency procedures. Must report to the Counselor Supervisor.

Standards of Job Performance:

Midwest Recovery expects the highest standards of job performance from the Counselor as outlined on the performance review.
