We are seeking a Dually Licensed Substance Use Disorder Counselor and Mental Health Therapist to join our residential treatment team and provide clinical services within our Minnesota 245G and ASAM Level 3.1 residential treatment program.

Position Summary

The Dually Licensed SUD Counselor / Mental Health Therapist provides individual counseling, group therapy, mental health services, treatment planning, and clinical support for individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. The clinician will work collaboratively with the treatment team to ensure high-quality care, regulatory compliance, and positive client outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Services

  • Provide individual, group, and family therapy services within the scope of licensure.
  • Deliver substance use disorder counseling and mental health therapy services for clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups focused on recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, life skills, and mental health symptom management.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, de-escalation support, and referrals when appropriate.
  • Monitor client progress and collaborate with the treatment team regarding treatment recommendations and care coordination.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete assessments, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in compliance with Minnesota 245G regulations, HIPAA requirements, professional licensing standards, and agency policies.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, supervision, staff meetings, and required training.

Residential Treatment Support

  • Provide weekend clinical coverage to support client programming and continuity of care.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented treatment environment.
  • Collaborate with residential staff and leadership to support client success and program operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Meet Minnesota 245G counselor qualification requirements.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Strong clinical documentation and communication skills.
  • Successful completion of Minnesota DHS background study.

Preferred

  • Active Minnesota LADC license or eligibility.
  • Active Minnesota mental health professional license, including:
  • LPCC
  • LICSW
  • LMFT
  • LP
  • Other qualifying mental health professional licensure
  • Dual licensure in both Substance Use Disorder Counseling and Mental Health Therapy strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Experience in residential treatment, ASAM Level 3.1 or 3.5 programming, crisis intervention, and group facilitation.
