Organization Overview

Mid-coast Recreation Center (MRC) in Rockport, ME is a community recreation center whose mission is to promote healthy living and build community through sport, fitness, and recreation. Our facility has a full size ice rink, four indoor tennis courts, three virtual golf simulators, and a fitness center. We are currently expanding the facility with a new eight-court pickleball building and four outdoor tennis courts. 

Role Overview

We are seeking an arena support associate to support our ice arena related activities. This individual will ensure that the ice and arena facility is properly maintained and will provide excellent customer support and service. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating the Zamboni machine (training provided) to ensure optimal ice conditions for skating and hockey events. This role requires attention to detail, a commitment to cleanliness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• General Arena Maintenance
• Maintain the cleanliness and safety of arena areas
• Escalate to manager for larger maintenance projects
• Fill out incident reports and handle injuries that occur in the facility
• Open and/or close the facility as required by completing all security procedures.  
• Ice
• Maintain ice as scheduled/required. Safe ice resurfacer operation.
• Ensure safety of all patrons by enforcing the rink rules at all time
• Skates
• Sharpen skates in a timely manner
• Process payments per standard operating procedure
• Provide respectful customer service, in person and on the phone. Greet customers with a smile and respond to their needs in a kind and courteous manner. 

Skills and Qualifications

• Previous experience operating a Zamboni or similar machinery is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
• Must be able to work well in a team environment.  
• Must be highly motivated to learn new skills, (ice resurfacing, ice edging), that are essential for a successful rink operation.  
• Knowledge of commercial cleaning practices and custodial duties is a plus.
• Must have the ability to supervise and communicate to rink participants.  
• Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.  
• Must be able to assume a positive and active role at the rink, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (weather, upset or injured participants, etc.).
• A fast learner; resourceful; find solutions.
• Growth mindset: embracing challenges and ambiguity; flexible and open to new ideas; willingness to collaborate with anyone; resilient and okay with failing quickly and learning from mistakes.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Reporting: The Arena Associate reports to the Arena Director.

Location: In person

Time Commitment: Full-time; seasonal October-March

Salary: $17-22/hour, depending on experience; facility benefits included
