The Youth Education Manager leads Miami Waterkeeper's youth-focused environmental education programming, with a primary focus on the Junior Ambassador program, Floating Classrooms, Youth Environmental Action (YEA) Days, The Youth Environmental Career Summit, classroom and community presentations, curriculum development, and our online Learning Management System (LMS). This role combines strong public speaking and facilitation skills with curriculum design expertise and digital program management, ensuring young people across South Florida have engaging, high-quality opportunities to learn about and take action for their local waterways. The Youth Education Manager also supports broader Education & Outreach initiatives and organization-wide events as needed, working collaboratively across teams to expand community engagement and advance Miami Waterkeeper’s mission.

Description

Essential Responsibilities

Youth Education Programs & Curriculum

  • Lead the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all youth-focused environmental education programs, including: Junior Ambassadors, Youth Environmental Action Days, Floating Classrooms, the Youth Environmental Career Summit, classroom presentations, and other educational programs as needed.
  • Deliver presentations and educational programming for schools, camps, and community groups, including facilitation in other languages as applicable.
  • Lead the development, evaluation, and annual updates of curriculum and educational materials, ensuring alignment with current environmental science and MWK's mission.
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative youth outreach events and activities to expand environmental literacy and stewardship throughout South Florida.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders, schools, and youth program partners to promote and support program initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, parents, schools, and youth event participants.
  • Manage and maintain Education & Outreach equipment for youth education activities.
  • Support volunteer events as needed, including assisting with event logistics, facilitation, participant engagement, and program delivery.

Learning Management System

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Miami Waterkeeper's Learning Management System (LMS), which is on the Learnworlds platform.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external online courses and learning modules.
  • Coordinate content development, including educational videos, photography, and digital learning resources.
  • Provide user support and oversee ongoing LMS updates and improvements.

Communications & Public Engagement

  • Develop written content for Miami Waterkeeper’s website, newsletters, and other platforms in collaboration with the Marketing team.
  • Coordinate creation and maintenance of youth education event registration pages and online program resources.
  • Represent Miami Waterkeeper at community meetings, conferences, public events, and media interviews related to youth education, as requested.
  • Support review and coordination of Education and Outreach-related social media and communications with the Marketing team.
  • Assist with translation of educational materials and facilitate programming in Spanish or other languages, when applicable.

Program Support, Metrics & Reporting

  • Manage data entry and reporting in the CRM related to youth education program attendance and volunteer metrics, and lead creation of related event landing pages.
  • Manage the master metrics tracking sheet and follow-up communications with program participants.
  • Support grant-related reporting by providing program descriptions, participation metrics, and outcome documentation as requested.

Internship Program & Team Support

  • Manage day-to-day guidance and supervision of interns supporting youth education initiatives, including onboarding, scheduling, and task coordination.
  • Communicate and distribute information to help staff make decisions, solve problems, and improve workflow.
  • Participate in staff retreats, organization-wide events such as State of the Water, and cross-functional planning sessions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in education, environmental science, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in youth education, environmental education, curriculum development, or nonprofit program management.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience facilitating programs for youth audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience developing educational curriculum and materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and comfort learning new digital platforms (LMS, CRM/database systems).

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole strongly preferred.
  • Experience with LMS platforms and online course development.
  • Familiarity with South Florida's environmental landscape and community-based environmental education.
  • Experience supervising interns or junior staff.

Salary

$64,000 - $68,000 per year
