Position Overview

MG3 Energy is seeking an experienced Project Manager, Distributed Energy Infrastructure to lead distributed energy projects across the full project lifecycle, from initial site diligence and project definition through pricing, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.

This role will work closely with MG3's commercial, engineering, and operations teams, as well as customers, EPC contractors, utilities, equipment suppliers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working through ambiguity, identifying missing information, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and driving projects forward with clear ownership of scope, schedule, budget, risk, and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development & Site Diligence

  • Lead initial site assessments and technical diligence for distributed energy projects.
  • Coordinate collection of technical, site, utility, permitting, and operational information required to define project scope, feasibility, constructability, schedule, and cost.
  • Identify site constraints, utility requirements, constructability concerns, operational limitations, and other factors that could affect project feasibility or execution.
  • Coordinate preliminary engineering, equipment selection, conceptual layouts, utility coordination, interconnection diligence, and permitting strategy.

Estimating, Pricing & Proposal Support

  • Coordinate vendor, subcontractor, EPC, and equipment pricing required to develop project CAPEX.
  • Work with MG3's commercial and engineering teams to develop complete and executable project scopes.
  • Support project estimates, schedules, assumptions, exclusions, contingency, and commercial inputs.
  • Identify long-lead equipment, major cost drivers, project risks, and scope gaps before commercial commitment.
  • Support proposal development and contract review to ensure technical scope and project assumptions align with commercial commitments.

Project Planning & Controls

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, critical-path activities, dependencies, and required decision dates.
  • Track progress against schedule and identify delays, risks, and corrective actions.
  • Manage project CAPEX budgets, contingencies, commitments, expenditures, forecasts, and cost-to-complete.
  • Review EPC and vendor invoices, milestone payments, change orders, and other project costs.
  • Manage project scope and change management throughout the project lifecycle.

Engineering, Procurement & Construction

  • Coordinate engineering activities, design reviews, technical decisions, RFIs, submittals, and open items.
  • Support procurement and track long-lead equipment, manufacturing schedules, logistics, and delivery dates.
  • Coordinate activities among EPC contractors, OEMs, engineering partners, utilities, customers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Monitor construction progress against schedule, budget, scope, quality requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Support utility interconnection, permitting, inspections, testing, energization, and commissioning.

Stakeholder Management & Reporting

  • Serve as a primary point of coordination among MG3, customers, contractors, utilities, vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead recurring project coordination meetings and maintain clear ownership of actions, decisions, deliverables, and deadlines.
  • Track key contractual obligations, milestones, warranties, payment terms, and schedule commitments.
  • Identify and escalate significant project risks, issues, and decisions requiring leadership involvement.
  • Maintain project reporting and provide MG3 leadership with visibility into schedule, budget, forecast, procurement, construction progress, risk, and key decisions.

Commissioning & Closeout

  • Coordinate commissioning plans, testing, energization, commercial operation, and final project acceptance.
  • Track punch-list completion and organize required closeout documentation, including as-built drawings, test reports, O&M manuals, warranties, permits, and approvals.
  • Support turnover of completed assets to MG3 operations, asset management, controls/EMS, and market operations teams.
  • Capture lessons learned and help improve MG3's project delivery processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in project engineering, project development, construction management, EPC project management, or a related infrastructure role.
  • Experience managing technically complex energy, electrical, construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of project development, estimating, procurement, construction, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, engineering teams, vendors, utilities, customers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and work with electrical one-lines, engineering drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with solar, battery energy storage systems, distributed generation, natural gas generation, microgrids, or other distributed energy infrastructure.
  • Experience working for or managing EPC contractors, engineering firms, utilities, energy developers, or equipment manufacturers.
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection, permitting, inspections, energization, and commissioning.
  • Familiarity with electrical infrastructure including switchgear, transformers, generators, inverters, protection systems, and utility service equipment.
  • Experience with project scheduling or construction management platforms such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, Smartsheet, or similar tools.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
