Job Title: Lead Field AV Technician (Cabling & Systems Installation)

Pay: $85,000 – $100,000 per year

Location: Rancho Cordova, CA (On-site / Field-Based)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary

The Lead Field AV Technician is a hands-on, field-based role responsible for the installation, cabling, and deployment of audio visual and communications systems.


This is NOT a desk-based IT or engineering role.


This position requires a working lead who will:

  • Be in the field daily working with customers
  • Perform physical installation work
  • Lead by example on job sites
  • Support and guide junior technicians


The ideal candidate has a strong background in:

  • Structured cabling
  • Cable termination
  • AV equipment installation
  • Field troubleshooting


This role is critical to ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Field Installation & Cabling (Primary Focus)

  • Install, route, and secure structured cabling (Cat5/6, fiber, low voltage)
  • Terminate and test cables (RJ45, patch panels, AV connections, etc.)
  • Install AV systems including:
  • Displays and TVs
  • Video conferencing systems
  • Speakers, microphones, and control systems
  • Rack and stack equipment (AV racks, network racks, etc.)
  • Read and execute installation drawings and site plans
  • Ensure clean, professional installations at client sites

Hands-On Field Leadership

  • Lead small crews on job sites while actively performing installation work
  • Train and support junior technicians on proper installation techniques
  • Ensure work is completed safely and meets company standards
  • Maintain productivity and accountability on site

Troubleshooting & System Setup

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of AV and connectivity issues
  • Verify system functionality after installation
  • Support final system testing and client handoff

Project Execution

  • Work closely with operations and project teams to meet timelines
  • Communicate progress and issues from the field
  • Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are used efficiently

Required Experience

  • 4–8+ years of hands-on field installation experience
  • Strong experience with:
  • Structured cabling (pulling, terminating, testing)
  • AV system installation
  • Low voltage systems
  • Experience working on construction sites or active job sites
  • Experience leading or mentoring other technicians in the field

Required Skills

  • Ability to terminate and test cables independently
  • Ability to install and mount AV equipment safely and correctly
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, or scope of work documents
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in field environments
  • Reliable, self-starter with strong work ethic
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, changing environments

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to:
  • Climb ladders
  • Work in ceilings and confined spaces
  • Stand, bend, and move for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in active construction and field environments


What This Role Is NOT

To ensure alignment, this role is NOT focused on:

  • Laptop configuration or IT help desk support
  • Software engineering or system design
  • Desk-based technical work


This is a hands-on, physical, field installation role.


Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with commercial AV systems (Zoom Rooms, Teams Rooms, etc.)
  • Certifications (CTS, low voltage, etc.)
  • Experience working with government or commercial contracts
