The Store Manager creates and leads a Christ-centered environment by modeling biblical hospitality to staff, donors, customers, and volunteers. This role is responsible for the full operational and spiritual leadership of the store, including hiring and developing staff, processing and pricing donated items, retail operations, financial stewardship, customer service, store appearance, safety, and adherence to company policies and mission.

Essential Job Functions


Christ-Centered Leadership

  • Lead and equip the team to reveal Christ in every aspect of their work.
  • Foster a culture of prayer, devotion, unity, and biblical hospitality.
  • Tell the Mel Trotter Mission Thrift story regularly and connect staff and customers to the mission.


Team Leadership & HR Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, mentor, and develop all store staff; partner with Team Services when needed.
  • Conduct ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective actions following HR guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and timely HR documentation including coaching opportunities, hiring and termination paperwork, workers’ compensation documents, payroll processing and scheduling.
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including verifying hours, calculating pay, managing deductions, and resolving payroll issues.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and spiritually encouraging work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, company policies, safety guidelines, and operational standards.
  • Schedule staff to meet projected store needs and manage labor efficiently.


Retail & Processing Operations

  • Perform and train staff in donation acceptance, presorting, pricing, and processing of merchandise.
  • Maintain brand standards for store appearance, cleanliness, floor sets, signage, restrooms, and customer areas.
  • Lead daily retail operations including cash handling, POS functions, refunds, and transaction accuracy.
  • Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed with excellence and in alignment with company standards.
  • Train and hold staff accountable for proper pricing, value recognition, and processing quality.
  • Oversee store merchandising, display changes, stocking, and product rotation to maximize sales.
  • Maintain clean and organized reception, presort, and processing areas.
  • Maintain minimum pieces per hour efficiency and ensure processors are meeting the same standards to optimize Retail and Processing Operations.


Financial Stewardship & Reporting

  • Review revenue projections, labor targets, and daily store metrics to guide decision-making.
  • Complete accurate financial reporting, deposits, and register audits; ensure accuracy and security of all funds.
  • Perform daily bank deposit drop-offs to local banks.
  • Review Cyfe Dashboard daily and communicate sales and processing targets to the team.
  • Adjust staffing, workflow, production output, and floor strategy according to financial projections.
  • Manage shrink, waste, inventory integrity, and stewardship of all donated items.


Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure all safety procedures, hazard removal, emergency protocols, and OSHA standards are followed.
  • Monitor store facility conditions and address safety concerns promptly.
  • Document and report incidents, injuries, customer issues, and operational concerns to the Director of Operations.


Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate daily with Leadership regarding store needs, opportunities, concerns, and updates.
  • Partner with the Wholesale Department to understand current processes, pricing changes, and sorting procedures.
  • Foster unity between Processing and Retail teams through consistent communication and shared goals.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly reports are completed accurately and on time.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior retail, or leadership experience preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Standing up to 100% of the workday; walking up to 75%.
  • Lifting, bending, sorting, and moving items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in both retail and warehouse environments, including some outdoor exposure.
  • Ability to use hands for sorting, organizing, and operating equipment.
  • Must wear a name badge.

Vision Requirements:

  • Close, distance, color, peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus.


Work Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Saturday, 43+ hours per week.
  • Minimum of two closing shifts weekly and two weekend closing shifts monthly.
  • Must work the opening shift on Payroll Mondays unless approved by Director of Operations.
  • Attendance at required meetings, events, and training.
  • Occasional voluntary Sunday work may be requested.
