Description

Position Summary

The Mobile Field Phlebotomist is responsible for providing professional mobile specimen collection services at patient residences, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, physician offices, and other healthcare settings. In addition to performing high-quality blood collections, this role is responsible for transporting laboratory specimens, delivering supplies to client locations, maintaining specimen integrity, and representing the company with exceptional customer service and professionalism.

This position requires extensive local travel, strong organizational skills, strict adherence to laboratory and safety regulations, and the ability to work independently while maintaining excellent communication with laboratory operations.


Essential Responsibilities

 

Mobile Phlebotomy

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages using approved collection techniques.
  • Properly identify patients using established identification protocols.
  • Collect, label, process, and prepare specimens according to laboratory procedures.
  • Ensure specimens are transported under appropriate temperature and handling requirements.
  • Maintain patient comfort while delivering compassionate, professional care.
  • Accurately complete electronic documentation and collection records.

Specimen Transport & Pickup

  • Pick up laboratory specimens from assisted living facilities and other client locations.
  • Verify specimen labeling, documentation, and packaging before transport.
  • Maintain chain of custody and specimen integrity during transportation.
  • Deliver specimens to the laboratory within required turnaround times.

Supply Delivery

  • Deliver laboratory collection supplies and other materials to patient locations.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory of commonly used collection supplies.
  • Communicate inventory shortages to management.
  • Assist with stocking and organizing laboratory supplies when needed.

Customer Service

  • Serve as a professional representative of the company with patients.
  • Build positive relationships with patients, providers, and facility staff.
  • Respond professionally to client questions and communicate operational issues promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Quality & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and company policies.
  • Maintain proper infection control procedures.
  • Perform daily quality checks on collection equipment.
  • Report specimen collection issues, incidents, or patient concerns immediately.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely submission of completed collections.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program.
  • Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification (where required by state law).
  • Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Reliable personal vehicle with current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout assigned territory.
  • Basic computer and mobile device proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience performing mobile phlebotomy.
  • Experience working with geriatric patients.
  • Experience in assisted living, home health, or hospice settings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and laboratory information systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to drive for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture with manual dexterity and precision.
  • Ability to safely transport laboratory specimens and supplies.
