Description

Description

We’re expanding our team of world-leading photonics and HPC experts with exceptional individuals who are passionate about photonics, thermal management, and chip design. We’re particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in experimental, theoretical, and active photonics, who want to apply their skills toward real-world impact. We're looking for team members with expertise in one or more of the following focus areas:

Photonics

·  Photonic inverse design (e.g. adjoint optimization, topology optimization)

·  Photonic layout and tape-out processes

·  Integrated photonic routing and on-chip optical networks

·  Optical signal multiplexing and chip-to-chip or chip-to-fiber interconnects

·  Development with photonic/electronic PDKs and EDA tools (e.g. Tidy3D, IPKISS, KLayout, GDSFactory, Lumerical, Synopsys OptoCompiler)

·  Hybrid photonic-electronic integration and packaging

·  Experimental photonics, nanofabrication, or optical metrology

Materials Science and Photosynthesis

·  Molecular photonics and organic electronics (design and optimization of organic semiconductors and conjugated systems; structural engineering to mitigate quenching and photobleaching; molecular isolation strategies)

·  Solid-state and hybrid materials chemistry (synthesis, deposition, and optimization of perovskites, quantum dots, and solution-processed materials)

·  Advanced photophysics (exciton dynamics, charge transport, and non-radiative decay pathways; IQE control in luminescent systems, e.g. lasers, TPVs, LEDs).

Heterogeneous Photonic Fabrication and Integration

·  Substrate and material interfacing (semiconductors, glasses, metals; handling, processing, and conditioning of crystalline semiconductor wafers).

·  Epitaxial growth and advanced thin-films (MOCVD, MBE; deposition of optical coatings, thin-film dielectrics, or solution-processed layers for integration)

·  Lithography and patterning processing (nano-patterning via optical lithography across varying substrate types; wet chemical etching and dry plasma etching).

·  Advanced wafer and substrate processing (wafer-level integration; wafer-bonding; chemical mechanical polishing for surface planarization and bonding).

·  Cleanroom experience.

Who You Are

Curious and collaborative: You thrive in interdisciplinary environments and are excited to work across theory, simulation, and lab-based prototyping.

Hands-on or simulation-driven: Whether you're building systems in the cleanroom or developing next-gen photonic models, we want your expertise.

Motivated by impact: You're eager to help grow and scale a new technology that redefines thermal design for AI, HPC, and next-gen compute infrastructure.

Why Maxwell Labs™

·  Work at the intersection of photonics, thermal engineering, and chip design - with positions available on-site or remote.

·  Collaborate directly with researchers at national labs and top-tier universities.

·  Help bring optical cooling out of the lab and into the rack.

·  Contribute to a company culture that values intellectual rigor, scientific exploration, and mission-driven engineering.

·  Potential for early-stage equity participation, leadership responsibilities and professional growth as the Company scales.

·  100% Company-paid medical, dental and vision premiums for eligible employees, with highly subsidized premiums for dependent coverage.

Compensation

Salary for this role starts at $130,000/year
