Description

MaxQ Medical is developing a next-generation ultrasound system that combines advanced electronics, signal processing, and system-level design to deliver a transformative imaging and therapy solution for prostate care.

Our team operates at the intersection of hardware and software, building systems that enable precise treatments with better patient outcomes.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Ultrasound Systems Engineer to drive system-level performance and image quality optimization across our ultrasound platform.

This role is not focused on architecture or component ownership, but rather on owning the integrity and performance of the full imaging signal chain—from probe to final image.

You will operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and signal processing teams to ensure the system performs as intended and continues to improve.

What You’ll Do

System-Level Ownership

  • Analyze and optimize the end-to-end ultrasound imaging signal path (probe → processing → image output)
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues such as:
  1. Noise artifacts
  2. Signal degradation
  3. Image quality inconsistencies

Image Quality & Signal Optimization

  • Develop and test image processing and signal processing techniques
  • Prototype algorithms (MATLAB/Python) before production handoff
  • Improve performance of imaging modes (e.g., B-mode and beyond)

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Collaborate with:
  • Hardware/electronics teams (signal acquisition understanding)
  • Software teams (algorithm handoff + implementation)
  • Mechanical teams (probe/system constraints)
  • Ensure seamless system behavior across all components

Experimental Validation

  • Design and execute experiments to validate system performance
  • Analyze results and iterate on improvements

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Master’s + 4+ years OR PhD + 2+ years in relevant field
  • Strong background in ultrasound systems, imaging system behavior, acoustics, and wave propagation
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving system-level performance issues
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with FDA/IEC standards
  • Startup or early-stage experience
  • Beamforming and image reconstruction
  • Real-time signal/image processing
  • C/C++ or embedded systems (for collaboration with software teams)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $170,000 – $205,000
  • Eligible for participation in an annual bonus plan and stock-based compensation, subject to company performance and board of directors approval
  • Comprehensive health benefits
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge medical technology
