Location
West Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid work model – onsite 3-5 days per week)
Role and Responsibilities
You will be a core part of our engineering team, developing the mechanical systems and product architecture behind our real-time microbial imaging devices. This is a hands-on, collaborative role where you’ll iterate quickly across design, prototyping, testing, and production alongside a multidisciplinary team, with significant opportunities for technical leadership as the company scales. You will:
- Collaborate with microbiologists, designers, electrical engineers, software engineers, and sales teams to define, design, and build complex electromechanical systems for analyzing biological samples.
- Design precision mechanical assemblies including plastic and metal components, optics, PCBAs, and actuators.
- Develop high-volume, single-use laboratory equipment for testing biological samples while keeping usability, manufacturing, and cost in mind.
- Prototype, test, and validate designs against product requirements using 3D printing, machining, and in-house tools.
- Refine product designs using Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), FEA, reliability testing, and statistical tolerance analysis techniques
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Product Design Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Design Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role in the biomedical/biotech or consumer electronics industry.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
- A solid understanding of engineering fundamentals (material properties, heat transfer, manufacturing methods).
- Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and component suppliers from prototype builds to mass production.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel to supplier and customer sites domestically and internationally (up to 15%)
- Authorized to work in the US (no sponsorship available for this role)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with the design, manufacturing, and qualification of biomedical, biotech, or pharmaceutical consumables and packaging.
- Experience designing robotics, equipment, and/or systems for laboratory or manufacturing automation.
- Experience leading projects or project teams.
- Familiarity with optical and electronics systems.
- Exposure to quality systems and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
