MAKE Projects is an employment social enterprise that operates a pop-up, full-service restaurant and urban farm in North Park.  MAKE, which stands for Merging Agriculture Kitchens and Employment, is currently accepting applications for candidates interested in joining our team as a Restaurant and Events Manager. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, our mission is empower refugee and immigrant women and youth with the job readiness skills and confidence to achieve their dreams. We provide 10-12 week transitional jobs to participants who receive a real, paid work experience that goes on their resume but also employment services for getting a permanent post-MAKE job. Our restaurant and farm – called MAKE Café & Garden – offers a globally-inspired, locally-sourced menu with tableside service with all our dishes cooked to order, handmade and prepared from scratch. www.sdmake.org

You are not afraid of technology – and are proficient with computer work (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experienced with professional email communications. You stay on top of your emails and are adept at switching between writing business emails with catering customers, to creating run-of-show checklists, to creating and managing staff schedules.

At least five (5) years of supervisory experience managing/coaching servers and coordinating FOH operations in a restaurant. Bonus, you love and know beverages and can oversee our wine, beer, coffee and specialty drink offerings.

 

What You’ll Do:

The Restaurant and Events Manager (REM) reports to the Executive Director (ED) and Deputy Director (DD). The REM is responsible for direct supervision and management of FOH staff and day-to-day operations for the restaurant. The REM manages, stocks and develops all FOH and beverage offerings, including FOH and beverage-related equipment, storage and supplies for restaurant and private events. A full-time REM will coordinate and manage on-site private events and catering for MAKE Projects, in close collaboration with the Deputy Director.  The REM will work with closely with the BOH team for restaurant and events, the ED and DD for improving and adjusting FOH to meet organizational strategy and business growth, as well as the Employment team to ensure participants are growing, learning and gaining job readiness skills.

 

Candidates must be available to manage all restaurant FOH shifts on Thursday through Saturday. This position requires at least 75% of the time working on-site at our North Park location and the remaining time for planning and team communications can be done remotely from home.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, salaried position at $64,480 with paid time off, paid sick leave, and medical/dental/vision health insurance plans. MAKE Projects also offers a matching 401k retirement plan.
