As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, our mission is to empower refugee and immigrant women and youth with the job readiness skills and confidence to achieve their dreams. We provide 10-12 week transitional jobs to participants who receive real, paid work experience that goes on their resume but also employment services for getting a permanent post-MAKE job. We are currently building a new farm location at San Diego State University (SDSU)Mission Valley. MAKE Farm & Garden will be a .75-acre vegetable farm, orchard, and outdoor events space.

Who You Are:

You are an organized, professional, and energetic individual with a passion for agriculture and a love of teaching.

You are excited to work alongside our Farm Program Manager to bring MAKE Farm & Garden to its next level of growth via business success and increased social impact for our refugee and immigrant job readiness participants.

You are detail oriented. You have enough direct farming or gardening experience to correctly train participants in best practices in seeding, planting, harvesting, and on-farm food safety practices. You are excited to bring your organizational skills to support MAKE’s growing CSA business – from crop plans to CSA customer management to invoices and pick lists.

You are a professional. You have excellent customer service skills in-person and via email. You know how to present yourself – using body language and verbally – in a positive, professional light and can coach and reinforce those skills in our program participants.

You crave a bigger, more fulfilling role in addressing all the social and environmental problems in the world today. You love that MAKE Projects is growing fast and see this as a perfect next step in your career.

What You’ll Do:

The Farm Program Coordinator (FPC) reports to the Farm Program Manager (FPM). Together, the FPC and FPM will oversee, train, and supervise all business activities and training of participants at MAKE Projects related to our farming business and farm-based products. FPC candidates must be able to work Wednesdays through Saturdays, on-site and in-person.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), hourly position at $20-23 per hour with paid sick leave. MAKE Projects also offers a matching 401k retirement plan after six months of employment.
