We acquire and manage legacy processing assets that connect regenerative farmers to institutional buyers, offering farmers diversified crop contracts that de-risk their operations both economically and ecologically. CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER 

The CIO will own the company's acquisition strategy, capital structuring, deployment, diligence, investor relations, and reporting. This executive will develop and execute our acquisition playbook, overseeing the end-to-end process of deal sourcing to close. The CIO will manage investor relations, including activities such as post-close point of contact; quarterly reporting on company performance, acquisition pipeline and deployment, impact and distributions; creating and managing audit-ready documentation; supporting fundraising; and leading data room development. 

This is a foundational leadership role that directly shapes Mad Markets' growth trajectory and market positioning. This role requires a forward-thinking, analytically rigorous leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate brings deep investment and M&A experience in the infrastructure and/or real assets sectors, a track record of deploying capital into complex operational businesses, experience managing the complex financials of multi-asset organizations and the ability to communicate compellingly with mission-aligned institutional investors. As a leader in Mad Markets, this person must demonstrate exceptional collaboration skills, strategic vision, and genuine alignment with our regenerative mission. A successful candidate will bring institutional investment discipline to an early-stage company and credibility to engage sophisticated investors. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Leadership: Serve as a C-suite leader of Mad Markets — jointly owning and shaping company strategy, culture, and growth. 
  • Develop and present deal recommendations to Board (which also serves as our Investment Committee); maintain rigorous investment discipline and risk management. 
  • Deal Execution: Manage deal pipeline; lead Acquisitions team through target identification, pipeline development, financial structuring/modeling, due diligence, negotiation, and close. 
  • Create acquisition and portfolio strategy and plan that aligns investor return economics and investor expectations with company growth, scale and impact. 
  • Investor Relations: Manage relationships with investors; deliver quarterly and annual reporting; lead data room development and handles distributions according to the waterfall. 
  • Subsidiary Financial Oversight: Monitor subsidiary financial performance; work with fractional CFO and portfolio level accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting and strong financial controls. 
  • Review subsidiary performance against investment thesis and strategic plans; provide reports to executive team, the Board of Directors and investors on performance interpretation and recommended course corrections. 
  • Team Building: In time, recruit, mentor, and lead the Acquisitions team. 
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Operations and Sales leadership to ensure acquisition targets align with operational capabilities and market demand. 
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP; maintain compliance with all financial regulatory requirements and reporting; owns audit readiness. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A minimum of 10 years of investment experience, with strong preference for candidates from Private Equity, Investment Banking, Investment Management, or similar disciplines with direct capital deployment and deal execution responsibility in the infrastructure and/or real assets sectors. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred. 
  • Experience working with impact-oriented or mission-aligned investors, family offices, or foundations; familiarity with impact reporting is a plus. 
  • Proven track record of successful deal sourcing and execution, including experience with mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and financial modeling. 
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with experience building and managing high-performing investment teams. 
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills, combined with strong business acumen. 
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with demonstrated experience engaging sophisticated institutional investors, family offices, and board-level stakeholders. This role requires someone who can convey complex financial information in a clear, credible, and compelling manner at all levels. 
  • Familiarity with government-guaranteed lending programs (USDA B&I, SBA 504, Farm Credit) and mission-aligned capital instruments (CDFIs, RBICs, impact preferred equity). 


COMPENSATION, LOCATION, & REPORTING: 

The position offers a competitive annual base salary ranging from $200,000 - $300,000 commensurate with experience, and equity. Current employee benefits include unlimited vacation, healthcare, retirement contributions, and employee equity within the management company. This position can be remote, yet we have a high preference for the Bay Area as Mad Markets is establishing physical HQ in the Bay Area Q4 2026. Up to 25% travel required.
