Position Overview

Lodestar Law LLC is seeking a licensed attorney to serve as an independent contractor representing clients at remote depositions and vocational interviews. This assignment-based role is ideal for an attorney seeking flexible legal work while remaining actively involved in litigation. The attorney will appear remotely as counsel for the client, prepare clients for testimony, protect the client’s interests during the proceeding, make appropriate objections to preserve the record, take detailed notes, and prepare a written summary for the litigation team after the event. This is not a document review or transcript review position; the attorney will actively participate in live proceedings as the client’s legal representative.

Core Responsibilities

·       Represent clients at remote depositions and vocational interviews.

·       Conduct pre-deposition and pre-interview preparation calls with clients.

·       Advise clients regarding the process, expectations, testimony preparation, and appropriate courtroom-style conduct in remote proceedings.

·       Protect clients’ interests during live proceedings and make appropriate objections as necessary to preserve the record.

·       Take detailed notes during depositions and vocational interviews, including significant testimony, admissions, issues, and follow-up needs.

·       Prepare clear, concise written summaries following each proceeding and submit them to the handling attorney or litigation team.

·       Report testimony, procedural concerns, client issues, and any notable developments promptly to the appropriate firm contact.

·       Maintain attorney-client confidentiality and comply with all applicable ethical obligations and firm procedures.

·       Represents clients professionally and confidently during sworn testimony and vocational interviews.

·       Prepares clients effectively so they understand the process, expectations, and role of counsel.

·       Preserves the record through appropriate objections while maintaining a professional remote presence.

·       Provides timely, useful written summaries that help the litigation team assess testimony and plan next steps.

·       Works independently, reliably, and without interruption in a secure and professional remote environment.

Required Qualifications

·       Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and good standing throughout the engagement.

·       Strong understanding of deposition procedure, litigation practice, objections, and client representation during sworn testimony.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise summaries in Microsoft Word format.

·       Ability to work independently, professionally, and responsively in a fully remote, assignment-based environment.

·       Strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, ethical judgment, and client service.

·       Reliable high-speed internet connection, webcam, microphone, computer, and other equipment necessary to participate in uninterrupted video conference proceedings.

·       Ability to maintain a professional remote work environment and comply with firm confidentiality, technology, and security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

·       Experience with workers’ compensation, Defense Base Act matters, personal injury, administrative claims, or other litigation-related practice areas.

·       Prior experience defending depositions, taking depositions, or representing clients during sworn testimony.

·       Experience preparing clients for testimony, identifying significant admissions, and reporting key testimony to a handling attorney.

Compensation and Position Details

·       Independent contractor (1099) position.

·       Remote, flexible, assignment-based workload; candidates may be located anywhere in the United States.

·       Compensation: $40–$60 per hour; anticipated workload of approximately 15–20 hours per week depending on assignment volume.

·       Attorneys are responsible for providing and maintaining their own equipment, including a computer, reliable high-speed internet connection, webcam, microphone, and any other tools necessary to perform the duties of the role.

·       Must maintain an active law license in good standing throughout the engagement.
