We are seeking an experienced Transfer Switch Technician with strong knowledge of automatic transfer switches (ATS), manual transfer switches (MTS) and related power control equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of transfer switch systems to ensure reliable operation in critical power environments such as hospitals, data centers, and industrial facilities.

Job Title: Transfer Switch Technician (ASCO Experience Preferred)

Location: New York

Job Type: Full Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance testing and commissioning of transfer switches and related power distribution equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, functional testing, and troubleshooting of automatic transfer switches and controls.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, replacing or repairing faulty components as needed.
  • Work with generator systems, switchgear, and power monitoring systems to ensure seamless power transfer.
  • Perform routine maintenance and commissioning of electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, switchgear, power transformers, instrument transformers, relays, etc.
  • Calibrate and adjust control systems to meet operational and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support during outages, load bank tests, and emergency situations.
  • Document service activities, test results, and equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and facility managers to deliver high-quality service.
  • Other duties as required.


Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with transfer switches (installation, programming, and troubleshooting).
  • Prior experience and/or training on ASCO transfer switches is preferred.
  • NETA certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, controls, and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Experience with low and medium voltage electrical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices.

 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience with generator paralleling and switchgear systems.
  • Knowledge of other ATS manufacturers (ASCO, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, etc.).
  • Certifications such as NETA, OSHA 30, or NFPA 70E training.
  • Military, utility, or critical power background.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor including climbing ladders, standing for extended periods of time, drive regularly, fly occasionally.
  •  Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial, healthcare, and outdoor facilities.
  • Ability to work on-call or after-hours for emergency service needs.


Required Abilities:

  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be able to work legally in the US.
