Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide on-site commissioning and maintenance of protection and control systems for Utility and industrial facilities.  
  • Provide development of test protocols and procedures for protection & control systems 
  • Complete factory acceptance testing of protection panels  
  • Complete factory QA/QC of protection panels 
  • Provide technical oversight for protection panel construction. 
  • Assist with development of standard procedures for protection & control system commissioning and maintenance.  
  • Complete P&C drawings for each design  
  • Complete as-built drawings for field installations, as part of turnover packages  
  • Coordinate testing activities with owner/utility  
  • Assist with design on all aspects of electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, and communications.  
  • Assist in the development of protective relay settings for all different relay types (GE, SEL, Siemens, ABB, etc)  
  • Assist in the development of programming files for SCADA systems  
  • Assist with developing company practices and procedures for engineering work  
  • Development of protection and control field test procedures and troubleshooting of test procedures. Provide guidance and assistance to field personnel in the execution of protection and control tests  
  • Review field test results for accuracy and provide input on test results  
  • Mentor and train employees in the knowledge area of protection & control 
  • Travel to client sites as required (up to 70%) 
  • Other duties as required 

Qualifications: 

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred but not required  
  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience  
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license; Certifications in electrical testing or safety standards (e.g., OSHA 30, NFPA 70E) preferred. Must be able to work legally in the US. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check. 
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge and expertise with medium and high voltage power systems, with a primary focus on protection and control  
  • Knowledge and expertise of substation general design, setup, and components  
  • Knowledge with PV and Wind power generation systems and collection substation, and commissioning of these facilities  
  • Expertise with SEL relays 
  • Proficiency with GE, ABB, and Siemens relays  
  • Good safety record and understanding of construction safety standards 
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills 
  • Good interpersonal and people skills 
  • Interaction with clients, customers, contractors, and others 
  • Assist with client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings 
  • Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading service teams and training junior technicians. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor including climbing ladders, standing for extended periods of time, drive regularly, fly regularly.

Salary

$75,000 - $150,000 per year
