Description

Finance Manager

Reporting to: Integrator

Team(s): Finance / Leadership

Regular/Recurring Meetings Attended:

  • Weekly Leadership L10 Meeting
  • Accounting L10 Meeting
  • Monthly meeting with external accounting firm
  • Quarterly Off-Site Leadership Meetings
  • Monthly Finance Review with CEO and Integrator

The Role

Our CEO has been holding the Finance seat, and it's time to hand it off. We're aiming to grow the business roughly 10x over the next three years, through more events, larger productions, and new market segments, and we want a finance partner who helps build the path there, not just keep the books.

This seat sits at the leadership table, next to our CEO and Integrator. You'll own the day-to-day finances, and you'll also own the forward-looking work: the models, the cash forecast, and the capital decisions that get us to 10x. We're not asking you to overhaul everything on day one. The first job is to stabilize, learn the business, and earn trust. From there, you build. And as we scale, this seat is designed to grow into Director of Finance.

Is This You?

This role is for you if:

  • You reach for forward-looking modeling before backward-looking reporting.
  • You're energized by growth, ambiguity, and building systems that don't exist yet.
  • You want to own FP&A and capital-allocation conversations, not just close the books.
  • You've done finance in live events, AV, or another project-based world, and you get how labor, gear, and subrentals roll up to margin.
  • You want a seat that grows with the company.

This probably isn't for you if:

  • You prefer steady-state controllership to building for scale.
  • You'd rather refine an existing process than design a new one.
  • You want a finance role that stays inside finance instead of partnering across the leadership team.

What You'll Own

The forward-looking work:

  • FP&A: build and maintain the financial models, a 13-week rolling cash forecast, and scenario planning for the 10x trajectory.
  • Capital allocation: partner with the CEO and Integrator on the real tradeoffs (owned versus rented gear, when to add headcount, when to upgrade systems).
  • Reporting design: build segment-level P&L and event-level margin visibility that holds up as volume grows.
  • Systems lifecycle: know when QuickBooks Online Advanced, or any tool, has become a constraint, and lead the move to what's next without breaking the close.
  • Leadership-table partnership: bring the numbers, the risks, and a recommendation to our Weekly L10s, Monthly Finance Reviews, and Quarterly Off-Sites.

The day-to-day:

  • Monthly close and compliance, in partnership with our external accounting firm. Accurate, timely books, no surprises.
  • Cash and banking: you always know where we stand, and you tell us what's coming.
  • Payroll and employee financial onboarding, including credit card setup.
  • Budget ownership: build it with us, watch it, and surface variances early.
  • Vendor and contract management: organized, current, optimized.
  • Develop our accounting clerk through 1:1s, clear scorecard metrics, and quarterly conversations.

What We're Looking For

  • You've owned real finance work in a small or growing company. Maybe you've been the finance lead, maybe you're the strongest person in a lean finance function ready to step up. How you think matters more to us than years on paper.
  • You know QuickBooks Online well enough to configure it, grow it, and tell when it's time to move on.
  • You're fluent in a labor-productivity and contribution-margin framework. We run on Simple Numbers (Greg Crabtree), so labor efficiency, contribution margin, and target profit are familiar ground.
  • You communicate financials clearly to people who aren't accountants.
  • You're comfortable challenging leadership with data, and steady enough to do it without ego.
  • You bring strong knowledge of Washington State and Seattle payroll, tax, and reporting requirements, or you'll get there fast.

And you bring our core values:

  • Going the Distance: no loose ends, no "that's not my job."
  • 360-Degree Accountability: transparent with the numbers, clear on expectations.
  • Infinite Learner: every close cycle is a chance to do it better.
  • Great Bedside Manner: calm, clear, and steady, even in a complicated quarter.

How We Work

We run on EOS (Weekly L10s, Quarterly Off-Sites, V/TO, Scorecards) and use Simple Numbers concepts as our financial framework. Our tech stack is QuickBooks Online Advanced, Flex Rental Solutions, Gusto, and HubSpot, plus a growing set of internal tools and AI workarounds we've built to get ahead of our current limits. This is a remote role. Expect to travel about four times a year, possibly including one international trip.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum 3-5 years of finance or accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Finance Manager or equivalent leadership role.
  • Required: Experience in live event production, audio visual services, or project-based/job-cost accounting. You understand how labor, equipment, and subrentals roll up to event-level margins.
  • Required: Proficiency in QuickBooks Online. Ability to configure, maintain, and train others on the system. You also know when it's time to move to a different system.
  • Small business finance background is required; you are comfortable being the finance leader, not just a member of a larger team.
  • Strong working knowledge of Washington State and Seattle city labor, tax, and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, you can present financial data clearly to non-financial leaders.
  • High attention to detail with ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Simple Numbers financial and valuation strategies.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot and/or LASSO is a plus.
  • Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, standard business hours (Pacific Time), with flexibility during period close.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work comfortably in a home office environment.

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $85,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and scope.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, with options to add family.
  • 401(k) with dollar-for-dollar match up to 3%.
  • Financial wellness support, including access to home and auto financing resources.
  • Optional pet insurance and renters' insurance.
  • Employer-provided branded gear.
  • Paid time off, year-round employment, and livable wages.
  • A real, named path to grow into Director of Finance as the company scales.
