POSITION TYPE: Grades K-12

LOCATION: Baltimore County, MD 

JOB TITLE: Teacher (Before & Aftercare)

SCHEDULE: Part Time (10-Month)

REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator


DEFINITION

The Teacher, under the direction of the Site Coordinator, is a skilled and adaptable educator responsible for providing high-quality before and after school care for elementary, middle, and high school-aged children. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Teacher will:

  • Manage small groups of children by grade level, facilitating engaging and age-appropriate activities.
  • Assist with homework completion and provide academic support to students.
  • Lead engaging group activities such as games, crafts, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Conduct whole group and small group activities across multiple grade levels.
  • Closely monitor student behavior and provide appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Supervise snack and meal times ensuring a safe and healthy environment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable field (i.e. elementary education, secondary literacy, literacy-reading specialist certification, special education, etc.).
  • Experience in early childhood education or literacy instruction.
  • Training in structured literacy and/or Science of Reading preferred.


Licenses and Certificates


  • Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.

OR

  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment 

Note: Active licensure in other states is acceptable with the understanding that the instructor must gain a Maryland license before beginning work.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • Knowledge of pedagogy principles and effective instructional techniques.
  • Skill in lesson planning and implementation, as well as in engaging students in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Proficiency in using technology, including database management, internet research, spreadsheets, word processing, and related applications.
  • Strong communication skills for interactions with students, parents, administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Work is primarily conducted in a school setting, requiring mobility around the classroom and site.
  • May involve carrying materials, and arranging, and decorating instructional spaces using resources provided. 
  • May require opening the site and preparing it for student arrival or securing the site and materials at the end of the day.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


  • Attendance at staff meetings (weekly) is required. Staff meetings may take place during or after normal working hours.
  • Attendance at occasional evening events (~2 per quarter) is required. 
  • Participation in daily staff check-ins is mandatory.
  • Participation in student excursions and field trips is mandatory.
  • Ability to serve prepared meals/snacks to students and return them to the refrigerator.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Note: This position may require traveling to one or more nearby locations to help other lead teachers. The sites are typically all within the same county (Baltimore County). Examples include: Before school programming at one site and then during school programming at another site; Filling in for absent staff members at another site.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa in the United States is required.


SALARY AND BENEFITS


Salary: $30-45 per hour (Non-Exempt)
