POSITION TYPE: Grades K-12

LOCATION: Baltimore County Public Schools

JOB TITLE: Learning Support Staff

SCHEDULE: Full-Time (Year-Round)

REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator

DEFINITION


Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the Support Staff provides assistance to the instructional program and plays an integral role in creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students. The role involves supporting instructional activities, managing classroom materials, supervising students during various activities, preparing student snacks and meals, and fostering student development in collaboration with educators.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Support Staff will:

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing the instructional program, including preparing and organizing learning materials.
  • Provide individual and small-group support to students during lessons and independent work, as directed by the Lead Teacher or supervisor.
  • Assist with classroom management, including monitoring and supporting student behavior.
  • Set up and prepare (not cook) snacks and meals for students, ensuring they are ready for distribution during scheduled times.
  • Support the preparation, organization, and display of student work and classroom materials such as manipulatives and visual aids.
  • Supervise students during instructional activities, transitions, breaks, recess, and other school activities or events.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of classroom activities, projects, and events.
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-sponsored events.
  • Organize and assist in school-wide events and activities to foster a positive school culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Site Coordinator to enhance the learning environment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • None required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Basic understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students and colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency in computer skills for tasks such as creating documents and organizing materials.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information with professionalism.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is primarily performed in a school environment, requiring mobility to navigate classrooms, outdoor spaces, and other school facilities.
  • Must be able to carry and set up learning materials and snack/meal items as needed.
  • May be required to regularly travel to multiple learning sites, as necessary.  


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires availability for after-school and evening meetings and events.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the assigned school site.
  • Citizenship, residency, or a valid work VISA in the United States is required.
