Lead Teacher

DEFINITION
The Lead Teacher, under the direction of the Site Coordinator, is an adaptable and skilled educator responsible for providing whole group, small group, and 1:1 remedial and foundational literacy instruction to students across multiple grade levels. While typically assigned to elementary, middle, or high school sites, instructors may teach students with instructional levels below their current grade, making this role ideal for elementary educators, secondary literacy teachers, reading specialists, or special educators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Teacher will:
- Deliver supplemental learning curricula to students at designated locations and times while maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Plan and implement remedial instructional programs that align with system-wide goals, priorities, and the needs and interests of students.
- Prepare and document lesson plans based on adopted curricula to achieve instructional objectives.
- Create an instructional setting that fosters intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth.
- Communicate learning standards, achievements, and areas for improvement to students and parents, meeting with them as needed.
- Maintain accurate student records, including academic performance, attendance, and disciplinary actions, while monitoring academic progress.
- Manage the use and care of instructional materials, equipment, and facilities responsibly.
- Collaborate with school administrators, educators, paraeducators, parents, and community members to support student learning.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child’s progress.
- Build strong relationships with community partners to enhance student support systems.
- Organize and participate in school events and activities.
- Attend staff meetings, Company-sponsored events, and excursions as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable field.
- Experience in early childhood education or literacy instruction.
- Training in structured literacy and/or Science of Reading preferred.
Licenses and Certificates
- Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.
OR
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of pedagogy principles, curriculum design, and effective instructional techniques.
- Skill in lesson planning and implementation, as well as in engaging students in meaningful learning experiences.
- Proficiency in using technology, including database management, internet research, spreadsheets, word processing, and related applications.
- Strong communication skills for interactions with students, parents, administrators, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Work is primarily conducted in a school setting, requiring mobility around the classroom and site.
- May involve carrying materials, and arranging, and decorating instructional spaces using resources provided.
- May require opening the site and preparing it for student arrival or securing the site and materials at the end of the day.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Attendance at staff meetings (weekly) is required. Staff meetings may take place during or after normal working hours.
- Attendance at occasional evening events (~2 per quarter) is required.
- Participation in daily staff check-ins is mandatory.
- Participation in student excursions and field trips is mandatory.
- Ability to serve prepared meals/snacks to students and return them to the refrigerator.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa in the United States is required.
