The core function of this position is to gain experience in journalism and news editing while working with The Western Journal. Skills to be developed during the internship include, but are not limited to proofreading, checking the accuracy of news claims, and editing news articles. We are accepting applicants for remote work from home (U.S. residents only, excluding California, Colorado, and Ohio) or at our main office located in North Phoenix in Arizona. This is a paid 40 hour/week, 12 week internship opportunity. The pay for this position is $13.85/hour. We are a 7-day a week operation and you may be required to work weekends. We are flexible with internship start dates.

Responsibilities:
- Check text to ensure it is well-written and logically structured
- Correct spelling and grammatical errors
- Check sources, facts and quotations for accuracy
- Review headline(s) to ensure they reflect the truth of the story
- Ensure the text conforms to The Western Journal’s house style
- Communicate with writers regarding errors and areas for improvement
- Participate in brainstorming and other collaborative meetings
Qualifications:
- No vaccination requirement
- Exceptional written communication skills
- News Junkie - interest in reporting and current events
- Exceptional internet research skills to investigate claims
- Team player with excellent interpersonal/collaboration skills
- If pursuing a Bachelor’s degree:
- Junior or Senior standing
- 2.5 GPA or higher
