Liberty Justice Center Communications Intern Remote · Part time

The Liberty Justice Center offers a rich educational opportunity for communications students to contribute to a cutting-edge public interest law firm.

Description

The Liberty Justice Center (LJC) is a national nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest litigation center that represents clients at no charge. LJC is not your typical public interest law firm—we focus only on precedent-setting work and take on only specific types of cases that we believe will achieve the most good for everyday Americans. We are litigating in more than three dozen states to protect the Constitution and America’s founding principles. Our litigation focuses on free speech, educational opportunity, government overreach, and workers’ rights, particularly those related to our victory in the landmark 2018 U.S. Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME.

Successful applicants have a strong work ethic and the drive and willingness to put in the work to get the job done. They share a commitment to classical liberal principles, including individual liberty, limited government, and the free market.

Interns are expected to work between 20 and 40 hours a week and will be paid $20/hour. Communications interns are responsible for tasks including:

-     Doing in-depth research

-     Assisting in the development of press releases

-     Maintaining a media database

-     Tracking media hits

Students studying English, communications, marketing, politics, or related majors are especially encouraged to apply.

Summer interns generally work from May through August, though exact start and stop dates are flexible in most circumstances. We also take on a limited number of interns during the school year, and can work with students to provide a work schedule that accommodates their academic obligations. Spring internship applications are due by December 31, 2023, and summer internship applications are due by March 1, 2024.

To apply for an internship opportunity, please provide a cover letter, resume, academic transcript, and two writing samples. Your cover letter should state your year in school, whether you are applying for a summer or academic semester internship, and why you would be a great addition to the Liberty Justice Center team.
