Company and Position Description: 

Liatris Inc. is a cutting-edge clean energy start-up developing the highest performance building insulation technology in the industry utilizing environmentally friendly and resilient (e.g. non-flammable materials). The Company has raised >$7M in R&D funding from leading corporate and government partners, and is scaling up its first product for rapid commercialization. We are growing our team in our new Rockville, MD R&D lab and seeking a motivated Research Chemist to help accelerate product scale up and commercialization. This requires that the candidate is knowledgeable in polymers and materials science, able to conduct organized research and utilize laboratory equipment to create new materials and processes which will be scaled up into future production. This person needs to be able to effectively communicate their knowledge, and new findings with the internal team and external stakeholders. This position will report directly to the R&D Director.

Responsibilities 

• Hands-on involvement in chemistry work relating to synthesis and sample preparation techniques for composite materials utilizing polymers, nano materials, and other organic/inorganic materials. 
• Development and execution of new experimental approaches and methods utilizing scientific literature and team guidance. 
• Demonstrate process improvements using appropriate data analysis and statistical tools 
• Generate technical reports and white papers for internal and external reviews. 
• Participate in cross-functional product and technical meetings with other key research and business personnel. 

Qualifications 

• Ideal candidates should have experience in polymers and materials science or other closely related fields with a Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. degrees in the area of Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, (or other related technical discipline). Candidates with other relevant industry experience may be considered. 
• Candidates with hands-on experience in the area of organic synthesis, nano materials, light-weight composites, and/or thermal insulation materials are strongly encouraged to apply. 
• Experience with common analytical laboratory equipment including but not limited to the following: Rheometer, TGA, DSC, Microscope, etc. 
• Strong interest in commercial product development. 
• Fluent in Microsoft Office programs such Excel, Word, etc.
