This part-time to full-time leadership role oversees a hands-on Mechanics Dynamics program, designed to empower participants through skill-building, supportive peer relationships, and access to low-barrier services grounded in harm reduction philosophy. 


The ideal candidate will have management experience, a background in mechanical repair or certification, and a strong commitment to harm reduction, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care


 


Key Responsibilities: 


Program Leadership & Development: 


  • Oversee the design and implementation of a peer-led mechanics program rooted in harm reduction, recovery, and empowerment. 
  • Ensure the program is low-threshold, person-centered, and accessible to participants at various stages of recovery. 
  • Integrate practical mechanical skills training (e.g., auto repair, small engines, bikes) with therapeutic, peer-led group and individual support. 


Staff Supervision & Peer Support Coordination: 


  • Recruit, train, and supervise peer support specialists and program staff. 
  • Foster a team culture grounded in mutual respect, harm reduction, lived experience, and ongoing learning. 
  • Provide mentorship and support to staff using a non-judgmental, collaborative leadership style. 

Participant Engagement & Harm Reduction Support: 


  • Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive workshop space where participants can learn and grow regardless of abstinence status. 
  • Offer and coordinate harm reduction supplies, education, and referrals alongside vocational and therapeutic programming. 
  • Engage participants with dignity and support their self-determined recovery goals, including access to safer use strategies, MAT, housing, and healthcare. 


Safety, Facility, and Mechanical Oversight: 


  • Ensure safe use and maintenance of workshop equipment and mechanical tools. 
  • Oversee hands-on projects and facilitate participant-led mechanical tasks in a structured, respectful environment. 
  • Uphold safety protocols without punitive measures, in alignment with harm reduction values. 


Administrative Duties: 


  • Maintain accurate documentation, data collection, and reporting in compliance with funding and organizational requirements. 
  • Collaborate on program budgeting, materials procurement, and partnership development. 
  • Support grant writing, outcome tracking, and quality improvement initiatives. 

 


Qualifications: 


Required: 


  • 2+ years of experience in program or team management, preferably in behavioral health, peer support, or social services. 
  • Demonstrated experience with or certification in mechanics (e.g., ASE-certified mechanic, vocational tech training, or hands-on work experience). 
  • Personal experience with recovery and/or direct work with people who use drugs or live with mental health conditions. 
  • Deep understanding and commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and peer support values
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. 
  • Valid driver’s license and background check clearance (prior justice involvement does not disqualify). 


Preferred: 


  • Certified Peer Specialist, Recovery Coach, or Harm Reduction Specialist (or willingness to obtain). 
  • Experience delivering services to underserved or marginalized populations (e.g., unhoused individuals, LGBTQ+ communities). 
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus. 

 


Compensation & Schedule: 


  • Pay starts at $28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. 
  • Full-time is considered 32 hours per week, to promote work-life balance. 
  • Benefits available after 90 days for full-time salaried staff (including health insurance, paid time off, and training opportunities). 
  • Flexible scheduling available for part-time candidates. 

Medical Benefits: 

All salaried staff are eligible to receive medical and dental benefits through PacificSource Health Plans - Bronze. LGS will pay the individual base premium rate. The employee can choose a more expensive plan and pay for the difference. LGS does not offer insurance plans for families. 

Retirement Contributions: 

LGS will begin making contributions to Human Interest on behalf of the employee after one year of full time employment. Matching contributions will begin at 3% and can increase over time. 

Sick Days: 

Sick time is available to all employees, including part time, and accrues in compliance with Oregon laws: one hour of sick time per 30 hours worked. Sick days are only used for when the employee is physically ill. Sick days are not available for cash out and does not roll over to the next year. 

Vacation: 

Year one of employment: 5 working days (6.5 hours per working day, accrued throughout the year) 

Year two+ of employment: 14 working days 

Vacation days accrue throughout the first year and roll over to the second year. Each subsequent year provides front loaded vacation days at the beginning of the year. After the end of your second + years, vacation will not roll over and must be used within the year. Vacation days are not available for cash out. 

 

Flexible Holidays: 

As a salaried employee, you have the flexibility to manage your schedule and working hours. Popular holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s) will come with a lower expectation of billable hours. Employees are supported in observing holidays that are important to them and should communicate their needs with supervisors. 

 

Monthly Wellness Day: 

 one day per month for salaried employees, does not roll over.
