This junior-level Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) is a crucial member of a collaborative team tasked with designing and developing engaging learning experiences for diverse audiences. This position requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team. The ideal candidate will be adept at following guidelines, developing compelling content, creating engaging learning experiences, and supporting evolving training requirements and initiatives.
NOTE: This is a part-time, hourly position with potential for increased hours and projects. The role is based in the Washington, D.C., area and requires regular in-person engagements. A work sample, portfolio, or other demonstration of your learning design or development work is required.
✔️ Summary of responsibilities
- Consult, train, and collaborate with the project team and subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop and integrate educational technologies that are used to enhance, augment, and evaluate instructional delivery methods
- Support the project team by utilizing the instructional design process to define, develop, field-test, and evaluate learning experiences and assets that align with sound instructional design principles
- Design learning resources that are accessible and effective for learners of all levels, ensuring optimal comprehension and retention of material
- Use instructional design methodologies and best practices to ensure quality and consistency
- Write concise, creative, and effective instruction
- Collaborate with various partners to understand and support the target audience's training strengths, preferences, needs, and culture
- Create engaging learning activities and compelling content, including exercises that enhance the learning process
- Develop supporting materials and media such as audio, video, simulations, role-plays, and games
- Collaborate with the learning resource designer to provide visual design support for the project team, utilizing existing assets and materials that align with client requirements, branding guidelines, and standards
- Assess and implement current trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design
✔️ Required
- Two - five years' experience related to the listed job responsibilities
- Undergraduate degree in adult education, educational technology, training, or related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and learning theories
- Familiarity with authoring platforms such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative, or Canva
- Ability to work and communicate in a fast-paced and collaborative team environment using modern technologies (e.g., file sharing, workflows, wikis, chat, video conferencing)
- Attention to detail in work products with a commitment to quality and learner satisfaction
- Proven strength in providing customer service to clients, SMEs, and learners
- Understanding of visual design principles
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Sound judgment and confidentiality with personal and sensitive information
- Positive, professional, and composed demeanor when interacting with clients, facilitators, and participants
