As our Electronics Controls Technician, you will build, test, and integrate hardware for development and flight avionics systems — from harness fabrication and GSE control panel builds to avionics board soldering, conformal coating, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test campaigns that verify hardware performance before it reaches the vehicle. You will work across both prototype development hardware and flight-qualified builds, maintaining the documentation and quality discipline each requires.

Description

  • HIL Testing: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Hardware-in-the-Loop test benches for avionics and controls hardware, integrating sensors, actuators, and simulation interfaces to verify system behavior ahead of flight.
  • Harness Fabrication: Fabricate, terminate, and test wiring harnesses per engineering drawings and IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, from development breadboards through flight-qualified assemblies.
  • GSE Control Panel Build: Build and wire control panels and consoles for ground support equipment, installing switches, indicators, relays, breakers, and terminal blocks per schematic.
  • Avionics Board Assembly: Perform through-hole and surface-mount soldering, rework, and conformal coating on avionics circuit boards to IPC-A-610/J-STD-001 and IPC-CC-830 standards.


Impacts and Outcomes

  • Deliver flight-ready harnesses, panels, and boards that pass acceptance testing on schedule, supporting vehicle integration and test milestones
  • Ensure HIL test results accurately reflect real hardware behavior, catching integration issues before they reach flight hardware
  • Maintain full build and test documentation and traceability for every harness, panel, and board across both development and flight builds
  • Uphold workmanship standards (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-CC-830) that protect hardware reliability and mission success
  • Identify and flag workmanship, wiring, or test discrepancies early, preventing rework and schedule slip downstream
  • Exercise sound judgment on build and test priorities within established procedures, escalating conflicts or open questions to engineering


What You Bring to the Team

  • 3+ years of experience in electronics assembly, harness fabrication, or avionics/aerospace hardware build
  • Soldering certification (IPC J-STD-001) or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Comfort reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Working familiarity with basic test equipment: multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and hipot testers
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline in an ESD-controlled lab environment


Bonus Points

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness certification
  • Experience with conformal coating processes and specifications (IPC-CC-830)
  • Prior experience in aerospace, defense, or flight-hardware environments
  • Familiarity with HIL test systems, LabVIEW, or similar test automation tools


Compensation

  • Level 1 (1–3 years): $19.23 – $36.06 / hour
  • Level 2 (3–5 years): $33.00 – $48.07 / hour
  • Level 3 (5–9 years): $45.00 – $62.50 / hour
  • Level 4 (10+ years): $50.00 – $72.12 / hour

The estimated salary range for this role reflects various compensation factors. The final offer depends on factors such as work experience, education, training, key skills, and business needs.
