ROLE SUMMARY

The Director of Member Recruitment & State Chapter Growth is responsible for expanding Leadership Now’s national membership base, and accelerating chapter growth. This is a relationship-centered growth role ideal for someone skilled in membership development, partnership cultivation, or strategic engagement who is motivated by scaling impact through people.


Reporting to the Head of Operations and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, this role will lead a national effort to engage, and convert membership referrals into high-potential individuals into active, values-aligned members. Simultaneously, the Director will support the development of state chapters by enabling local leaders to build strong communities and grow their local networks.


This role is mission-driven and growth-oriented, combining national recruitment strategy with hands-on support for chapters to deepen Leadership Now’s influence across key states.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Member Recruitment & Strategic Outreach

  • Lead the national member recruitment strategy focused on values-aligned business leaders and civic influencers.
  • Build and manage a strong recruitment pipeline through referrals, proactive outreach, and targeted community engagement.
  • Collaborate with current members, advisors, and chapter leaders to surface leads and build a culture of member-led recruitment.
  • Partner with Communications and Product teams to develop effective messaging, collateral, and outreach tools.
  • Track progress against growth goals and report on pipeline movement, onboarding conversion, and geographic reach.


Chapter Growth & Leader Enablement

  • Guide the development of state chapters by supporting local leaders in building vibrant communities and recruitment strategies.
  • Develop toolkits and playbooks to help chapter leaders engage prospective members, onboard new participants, and grow local leadership teams.
  • Facilitate peer learning and collaboration among chapters to spread high-performing practices.


Member Experience & Engagement

  • Ensure a strong onboarding experience and a clear pathway for new members to plug into chapters and national programming.
  • Identify and cultivate local leaders to join steering groups and take on volunteer roles that deepen engagement.
  • Monitor chapter health, membership trends, and engagement metrics—providing coaching or support as needed.


External Engagement & Ecosystem Building

  • Support Leadership Now in priority states through travel (25-35%) for chapter visits, events, and partner engagements.
  • Cultivate partnerships with state-based civic, alumni, and business networks to support member referrals and chapter growth.
  • Serve as a visible, trusted ambassador for Leadership Now’s values and membership model.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7–10 years of experience in community-building, organizing, membership development, or network leadership in civic, nonprofit, or political environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with volunteer leaders.
  • Experience supporting or growing chapters, coalitions, or decentralized member structures.
  • Strategic and systems-oriented thinker with the ability to collaborate across departments and workstreams.
  • Experience working with Political Advisors, policy-focused teams, or multi-stakeholder coalitions is a plus.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm for regular travel to support chapter-level work.
  • Commitment to democratic renewal and the role of civic leadership in shaping a stronger future.
  • Location: New York, with regular travel required (approximately 25–35%), especially to priority chapter states
