Position Overview
The Advanced Welding Instructor delivers intermediate to advanced welding instruction in TIG, STICK, MIG, and Flux-Core processes, guiding students toward industry-recognized certifications and workforce readiness. This role requires strong instructional leadership, inclusive teaching practices, and a commitment to safety, mentorship, and student growth.
Classes are primarily scheduled in the evenings, so evening availability is strongly preferred and will be discussed during interviews.
This position also contributes to curriculum development, instructional planning, and collaborative fabrication projects that expand LWG’s technical offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Leadership
- Deliver high-quality instruction in TIG (GTAW), STICK (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and Flux-Core (FCAW), including out-of-position welds (3G/4G/6G).
- Prepare students for certifications (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, or similar).
- Coach students in advanced welding prep, troubleshooting, and visual/mechanical inspection standards.
- Model professional behavior, safety standards, and welding craftsmanship.
Curriculum Development & Program Growth
- Co-develop and refine advanced course curriculum, including hands-on projects, assessments, and certification pathways.
- Collaborate with team members on instructional resources, fabrication workshops, and employer-driven programming.
- Incorporate student and employer feedback to continuously improve educational content.
Mentorship & Culture Building
- Mentor Teaching Assistants and junior instructors to support instructor pipeline development.
- Uphold LWG’s inclusive and culturally responsive environment.
- Respond professionally to inappropriate conduct, escalate concerns when necessary, and maintain classroom integrity.
Facility Oversight
- Ensure advanced welding equipment and shop spaces are clean, safe, and class-ready.
- Coordinate with the Shop Operations Manager for booth setup and tool maintenance.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate attendance, documentation, and equipment logs.
- Submit material requests and certification prep needs in a timely manner.
- Communicate student concerns to Workforce Success Coaches and department leadership.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA and LWG-specific safety standards.
- Ensure proper PPE usage, ventilation, and equipment protocols.
- Proactively identify and mitigate shop hazards.
Professional Boundary Expectations:
- No personal, familial, or professional relationships with students unless disclosed to leadership.
- Strictly refrain from socializing, partying, or fraternizing with students.
- Failure to uphold boundaries may result in disciplinary action, including termination.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Certification in welding (e.g., AWS D1.1, D17.1, or equivalent)
- At least 5 years of industry experience in TIG, STICK, MIG, and Flux-Core welding
- Ability to teach out-of-position welds (e.g., 3G/4G/6G) and interpret technical drawings
- Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills
- Dedication to cultural awareness, safety, and inclusive teaching
- Preferred:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) or multilingual
- Familiarity with stainless steel, aluminum, or pipe welding
- Experience mentoring apprentices or leading teams in a shop setting

Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary range: $55,000–$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience, schedule, and cohort load
