The Small Business Promotions Coordinator is tasked with developing and implementing business promotions programs and services to elevate the profile of and connections between small businesses in Marquette County. This position will have a special focus on implementing business promotions strategies in the West End.

The Small Business Promotions Coordinator is tasked with developing and implementing business promotions programs and services to elevate the profile of and connections between small businesses in Marquette County. This position will have a special focus on implementing business promotions strategies in the West End but will also support development of overall small business promotions efforts tied to the LSCP and Central Upper Peninsula Small Business Hub. The position is considered a “front line” team member, one of the first contacts current or future members will have with the LSCP and is responsible for maintaining the LSCP’s accessible and professional image. The position serves as the primary staff lead for West End Economic Hub operations.  


Core hours: 8:00 - 4:30 Monday to Thursday and 8:00 - 12:00 on Friday. Additional evening hours 1-2 times a month for networking or other events.

 

Key funds supporting this position currently come from a grant expiring in September 2026; as such, this position has expiration date of September 25, 2026. The LSCP will seek to identify new and sustainable funding sources to continue this position beyond this date if possible.


This position will remain open until filled. First review of applicants will occur on June 11.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES AND OBJECTIVES 

  • Design and implement business promotion programs and services, including social media, newsletters, networking, guides, events, and more focused on West End businesses in Marquette County 
  • Provide support for small business promotions programming or services related to the Central Upper Peninsula Small Business Support Hub 
  • Serve as the main point of contact at the West End Economic Hub office, including ensuring the office is open and available for use by small businesses in the area 
  • Ensuring small business members of the LSCP are accessing available benefits and services to enhance their business experience 
  • Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external clients    
  • Assist with LSCP events including but not limited to the Annual Dinner, Golf Outing, and Fall Fest   
  • Assist the Marketing Director with other assigned marketing activities related to the promotion of small businesses, including graphic design 
  • Provide limited administrative support for the LSCP CEO and other key LSCP leadership team members (virtually)
  • Participate in shared office tasks as needed


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS  

All candidates possessing the combination of training and experience necessary to complete the position responsibilities and objectives as outlined above will be considered. Specific qualifications considered necessary for success in the position include: 

 

  • At least two years of experience in marketing, graphic design, public relations or another related field. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with peers and customers. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within teams 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks. 
  • Demonstrated ability with computers/software tools (Microsoft 365, databases, social media tools, etc.).  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, presenting information orally and in writing to various audiences. 
  • Demonstrated problem solving, time management, event management, and team management skills. 
  • Understanding of the Northern Michigan geographic, economic, cultural, and political environment. 
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
  • Additional desired skillsets and background: Sales experience, existing connections to West End businesses and communities.

 

COMPENSATION AND CLASSIFICATION  

The hiring range for coordinator positions is $39,400 - $41,400 annually (equivalent of $18.75 - $19.90/hour) depending on qualifications. The LSCP may consider hiring at a specialist level for candidates who bring additional experience, credentials, and other unique assets to the team including connections to the existing business community in western Marquette County. This position has the potential to be extended at or before the end of the grant period. The LSCP would also consider a part-time schedule (minimum of 20 hours) if an excellent candidate's personal circumstances required such an arrangement.

 

Full-time LSCP team members are eligible for paid time off, SIMPLE IRA (3% match), paid holidays, health insurance (80% employer paid premiums, employee-only), and short term disability (100% employer paid). The LSCP offers a flexible work environment, providing office space and a welcoming culture. This position will require you to work on-site at the West End Economic Hub with local travel regularly, including to Marquette or potentially other counties. Travel outside of the office is covered by LSCP's travel policy, including mileage.
