Job Description

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Summary

The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the Association.  

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision of Staff Performing Accounting Duties

Oversee the entire financial process; work with the staff to ensure that accounting related duties delegated to them by the Executive Director are performed to standard.

Provide training to staff, as needed, on accounting related duties.


Maintain a system of accounting policies and procedures, standard operating procedures (SOP), consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); implement and maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

Manage and oversee accounting functions on a day-to-day basis including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, onboarding new employee, maintain owner accounts, bank reconciliations, 1099s, state and federal taxes, IRA, annual financial reviews, and general ledger accounting.

Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Track and document fund transfers between the association and financial institutions.

Prepare periodic reports for the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.

Recommend benchmarks for measurement of the Association’s financial performance.

Work with the Executive Director in the preparation of a fiscal budget.

Evaluate performance against the budget and report significant budget differences to the Executive Director.

Provide financial analysis assistance to Executive Director for near-term and long-range financial planning.

Attend the Finance Committee meeting monthly to present financial reports.

Coordinate with external CPA firms and auditors to provide required information for financial reviews and/or audits, and annual tax returns.

Assist Executive Director with reserve fund investments. 

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

Other duties as assigned.


·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

·        Three to five years or more of related experience required.

·        Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

·        Familiar with HOA accounting software, TopsOne preferred.  

·        Communication skills.

·        Excellent organizational and time management skills.

·        Pass a background check.
