Family Advocate (Bilingual English/Spanish)

Position Summary The Family Advocate supports families with children ages 0–5 through relationship-based outreach, parent education, school readiness support, resource navigation, and community-based family wellness services. This role works closely with caregivers to strengthen protective factors, support healthy child development, increase access to resources, and build family resilience. The Family Advocate provides culturally responsive support through workshops, outreach, referrals, care coordination, family engagement activities, and collaboration with community partners throughout Northern Sonoma County.
This position is highly community-based and requires strong relationship-building skills, flexibility, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced grassroots environment.
Total Compensation Package The compensation for this position is $25–$29 per hour depending on experience.

Full-time employees currently accrue paid vacation and sick leave at a rate of approximately 1.6 hours per 40 hours worked, with annual accrual maximums of up to 80 hours per policy year.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Family Support & Navigation
● Provide culturally responsive support, advocacy, and resource navigation for families
● Assist families in accessing healthcare, food access, housing navigation, public benefits, legal referrals, childcare, and early childhood services
● Support caregivers in navigating school systems, developmental resources, and community-based programs
● Provide referrals and care coordination with internal and external partners
● Maintain consistent communication and relationship-building with participating families
● Conduct home visits and field-based family support activities as assigned Parent Education & School Readiness
● Support and facilitate workshops, support groups, playgroups, and family-centered programming
● Assist families in understanding child development, school readiness, resilience, and family wellness concepts
● Encourage caregiver engagement in children’s learning and educational development ● Support developmental screenings, referrals, and early intervention access as assigned ● Facilitate Creciendo en Camino / Pasitos groups and related programming as assigned
Outreach & Community Engagement
● Conduct outreach and enrollment activities throughout Northern Sonoma County
● Represent La Familia Sana at schools, community events, apartment complexes, food distributions, and partner sites
● Build collaborative relationships with schools, providers, agencies, and community partners
● Help create welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environments for families
Documentation & Coordination
● Maintain organized case notes, participation records, and program documentation
● Enter data and assist with reporting requirements
● Communicate effectively with staff, partners, and families
● Participate in staff meetings, trainings, planning sessions, and cross-program collaboration
● Complete required trainings and program-related compliance activities Additional Responsibilities
● Support organization-wide community initiatives and events as needed
● Work collaboratively within a small, mission-driven team environment

Qualifications
● Bilingual English/Spanish required
● Strong communication and relationship-building skills ● Ability to work independently while collaborating within a closely connected team
● Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
● Comfortable working in fast-paced and evolving community environments
● Ability to maintain professionalism, flexibility, and emotional boundaries while supporting families experiencing stress or system barriers
● Basic computer skills including Google Workspace, spreadsheets, email, and documentation systems
● Cultural responsiveness and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Preferred Experience & Education
● Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
● 1–2 years of experience working with children ages 0–5, families, immigrant communities, or community-based programs preferred
● 12 ECE units preferred
● Experience in nonprofit, education, community health, outreach, social services, or family resource center settings preferred
● Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or parent engagement activities preferred
● Knowledge of child development, family systems, trauma-informed care, and community resources preferred
Required Certifications & Clearances
● Valid California Driver’s License and insured vehicle for work-related travel
● Ability to pass DOJ background clearance prior to employment
● Current TB clearance
● MMR and Tdap vaccinations required
● Flu vaccination strongly encouraged
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position includes both office-based and community-based work. Staff regularly travel throughout Northern Sonoma County to support families, attend meetings, conduct outreach, and participate in community events. The position requires frequent standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 30 pounds, computer use, public speaking, and engagement in indoor and outdoor community environments.
