Description

About L’Arche North Carolina

L’Arche North Carolina cultivates inclusive communities where people across the spectrum of intellectual and developmental disability identities live and flourish together.

At L’Arche, we believe that everyone has unique gifts to share and that meaningful relationships are at the heart of a thriving community. Our homes are places where people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities share daily life, build friendships, and experience belonging.

About the Position

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and collaborative House Leader to oversee the daily operations and community life of a L'Arche home.

The House Leader plays a key role in creating a welcoming, safe, and meaningful home environment for our core members (adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities). This position combines team leadership, relationship-building, scheduling, and household management.

The ideal candidate enjoys supporting people, coaching staff, solving problems, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Staff Support

  • Supervise, coach, and support a team of live-in and live-out Assistants.
  • Lead team meetings, regular check-ins, and staff development.
  • Coordinate hands-on training and shadowing for new Assistants.
  • Create and maintain staff schedules, manage routine call-outs, and coordinate shift coverage.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback.

Core Member Support & Community Life

  • Foster a home culture centered on dignity, belonging, mutual respect, and personal choice.
  • Build meaningful relationships with core members and support their individual goals, preferences, and daily routines.
  • Help coordinate appointments, transportation, household activities, and community participation.
  • Maintain positive communication with families, guardians, and the residential leadership team.
  • Guide staff in providing consistent, person-centered support.

Household Operations

  • Oversee daily household routines, groceries, supplies, calendars, and budgets.
  • Help ensure the home and assigned vehicle are clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Review daily service documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor medication routines, health and safety concerns, and follow established reporting procedures.
  • Coordinate household maintenance needs and administrative tasks.

On-Call & Direct Support

  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to help address urgent staffing or household needs.
  • Provide occasional direct support to core members when needed to maintain safety and continuity of care.

Schedule & Availability

This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule. Most administrative responsibilities take place Monday through Friday during typical daytime hours.

Because L'Arche is a residential community that provides support seven days a week, the House Leader must have flexibility to work Monday through Sunday, between 8:00 AM and 9:30 PM, as needed.

This includes occasional evenings and weekends to support the team, respond to household needs, or fill in for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). The House Leader also participates responding to on-call duties.

While the role offers flexibility in arranging regular work hours, candidates must be comfortable adapting their schedules to meet the needs of the home.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, education, nonprofit leadership, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • At least two years of experience in direct support, residential services, team leadership, or supervision.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Builds trusting relationships and leads with compassion and respect.
  • Communicates clearly and works collaboratively with others.
  • Is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing schedules and competing priorities.
  • Enjoys coaching and supporting a team.
  • Can solve problems thoughtfully and respond calmly to challenges.
  • Believes in the importance of inclusion, community, and person-centered support.
  • Has flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends and provide direct support when needed.
  • Can meet required background check, driving, training, and applicable physical and service-specific requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

L'Arche North Carolina offers a competitive benefits package for full-time employees, including:

  • Paid Time Off: 20 days of PTO during the first year of employment and 25 days annually thereafter, unless otherwise negotiated. PTO begins accruing on the first day of employment and includes vacation and holidays.

  • Retirement: SIMPLE IRA with a 3% employer match, subject to plan eligibility requirements.
  • Cell Phone Stipend: $40 per month.
  • Paid Sick Leave: Two paid sick days annually, available after 30 days of employment, for personal illness or health needs or illness/injury in the immediate family.
