About Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary

Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary is a four-generation ʻohana passion project, reforesting and reconnecting people to nature since 1982. On the slopes of Mt. Hualālai in Kaloko Mauka — twenty minutes from Kona town — we protect old-growth native forest alongside fifteen acres of former pasture that's been hybrid-reforested over decades, blending native flora like ʻōhiʻa, koa, and giant hāpuʻu tree ferns with species from tropical and temperate forests around the world. The result is one of Hawaiʻi's most unique and biodiverse forested areas — home to native Hawaiian honeycreepers living alongside plants and trees you won't find growing side-by-side anywhere else in the world. We offer guided forest tours, birding tours, forest bathing, sound baths, and yoga, all built around one belief: real, embodied connection to nature changes people. We're consistently rated the #1 nature experience on Hawaiʻi Island by Google, TripAdvisor, and Hawaiʻi Magazine, and have earned the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Ethics. Our mission: connect humanity back to nature. Because when we connect, we care, and when we care, we protect. What makes us stand out as a place to work: we're a small, values-driven ʻohana-style team, not a corporate operation. Every team member gets real mentorship from KCFS's owners — experienced transformational facilitators and coaches — and a direct hand in conservation work that's been active for over 45 years.

Description

Earn $125–$250/day leading immersive sound bath journeys in an ancient Hawaiian cloud forest — plus 100% of guest tips.

ENGAGEMENT TYPE

This is an independent contractor (1099) role, not an employee position. You maintain your own independent sound healing practice, are free to offer sessions at other studios, venues, or for private clients, and are engaged by KCFS on a per-session basis with no exclusivity required.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Lead scheduled sound bath sessions for guests in our cloud forest setting

- Design and deliver your own session format using your own instruments (singing bowls, gongs, chimes, etc.)

- Create a safe, immersive, restorative experience for guests of all experience levels

- Communicate any scheduling needs, cancellations, or substitutions directly and promptly

- You will be responsible for independently setting up, checking in guests, and breaking down each experience

SCHEDULE & AUTONOMY

- Choose which offered slots fit your schedule and commit to them — many practitioners settle into a consistent weekly rhythm (e.g., a standing Sunday/Monday slot)

- Once committed, reliability matters — we're counting on you to show up consistently for the slots you've taken

- Arrange your own qualified substitute for a session you can't cover, subject to KCFS confirming their experience

- You determine your own session style, structure, instrumentation, and technique

COMPENSATION

- $125 per session, up to two sessions offered per day ($250 total on two-session days)

- 100% of guest tips, paid directly to you

- Paid via 1099; KCFS will issue Form 1099-NEC if total annual payments reach $2,000 or more

REQUIREMENTS

- Deep training and practiced experience in sound healing, with demonstrated skill facilitating group transformational sound experiences

- Own commercial general liability insurance covering your practice — certificate of insurance naming KCFS required prior to first session

- Own instruments/equipment (bowls, gongs, etc.)

- Comfortable working outdoors in a forest environment

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR TERMS

- You are not an employee of KCFS and are not entitled to employee benefits (health insurance, PTO, workers' compensation coverage through KCFS, etc.)

- You are responsible for your own taxes, including self-employment tax

- You retain the right to offer your services to other studios, venues, or clients

- This engagement may be ended by either party at any time

HOW TO APPLY

Apply through this posting with a brief cover letter that tells us about your background and training in sound healing, your practice and approach, and your general availability. A resume is preferred, but not required. Aligned and qualified applicants will be invited for auditions in the coming days.
