Position Summary
We are currently hiring a skilled and dependable Commercial Refrigeration Journeyman Technician to join our service team. In this role, you will install, maintain, diagnose, and repair commercial refrigeration systems for a variety of clients, including grocery stores, restaurants, food processing facilities, and retail outlets. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Commissioning
- Install, start-up, and commission commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, reach-in cases, ice machines, and rack systems.
- Ensure systems are installed per manufacturer specifications, local codes, and client expectations.
- Coordinate with electricians, plumbers, and general contractors on job sites.
Service & Repair
- Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair on a wide range of refrigeration systems and controls.
- Repair or replace compressors, evaporators, condensers, motors, fans, valves, sensors, and electronic control boards.
- Respond to service calls promptly, including after-hours emergencies when scheduled.
Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct scheduled maintenance tasks to maximize system efficiency and prevent breakdowns.
- Identify worn or failing components and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Complete maintenance logs and equipment performance documentation.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding system issues, repair options, and preventive care.
- Provide accurate estimates and service recommendations.
- Ensure a clean and professional work environment at all job sites.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all work is performed according to EPA, OSHA, and local safety codes and regulations.
- Properly handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA guidelines.
- Complete service tickets, timesheets, and equipment documentation accurately and on time.
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with commercial refrigeration systems.
- EPA Universal Certification (Type I, II, III).
- Proficient in reading technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with energy management controls (e.g., Emerson, Danfoss, CPC).
- Working knowledge of digital service tools and mobile work order systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders or rooftop units.
- Comfortable working in cold environments, outdoors, and occasionally at heights.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, and participate in an on-call rotation.
